Jackie and Sean loved the Algonquin neighborhood they lived in with the peaceful neighborhood and the close proximity to work and school. What they didn’t love was how outdated their home had become. With a cramped kitchen and an unused dining room, they decided a remodel was the perfect solution to their problem. They would be able to continue to live in the area they loved, while at the same time they could have the dream home they envisioned. After a thorough search, Jackie came across Advance Design Studio. She was impressed by all of the positive reviews she saw on the internet and saw herself identifying with all of the project stories she saw on the website. Once they met with designer Scott Christensen and owner Todd Jurs, they knew Advance Design was the right company to make their dreams a reality. The project consisted of four main areas: the kitchen/dining/powder room, the laundry room, the master bathroom, and the kid’s bathroom. They wanted to expand the kitchen into the seldom used dining room and add a large island for hosting parties and family gatherings. They also wanted new hardwood flooring throughout the first level. The laundry room needed to be more functional, and all three bathrooms were in dire need of updating. The closed off kitchen was opened up to create a sweeping space between the new eating area and the much larger kitchen. A handsome dry bar complete with a beverage refrigerator and lighted glass door cabinetry makes an elegant transition across from a peninsula area filled with storage. An additional decorative cabinet lighting up elegant dishware through the mullioned glass sits directly across from the drybar. An expansive island was critical to the kitchen plans. Jackie, Sean and Scott worked closely together to create just the right details for their design. They wanted the island to be functional in addition to being the centerpiece of the room. Added storage for the kid’s school supplies was hidden behind cabinet doors so the children could do their schoolwork right at the island, and a microwave drawer glides open with the touch of a finger hidden inconspicuously within the island space. The easy to care for Cambria Britannica Quartz island top with its sweeping grey and white marble look perched atop hand-carved Craftsman corbels was absolutely what they were hoping for, blending both beauty and function perfectly. Adding a nice contrast to the brightness of the quartz and the white cabinetry, Kodiak - Leather granite countertops were used to balance the light and dark tones of the space. Dura Supreme Classic White painted cabinets grace the perimeter, while Maple Poppy Seed stained cabinets with a beautiful soft grey woodgrain were used in the beverage center and island. The two tones compliment the large space balancing it out nicely creating interest and elegance with the simple Craftsman style full overlay doors. A deep warm Barnwood White Oak flooring was added throughout the lower level. The new floor brings additional contrast to the bright kitchen and provides unity with the now open floorplan as it rolls in to the foyer and family room. Final details like the show-stopping lunar like duo light fixtures complete the space and intermix expertly with crisscross details of the glass door mullions, the island bar seating and even accessories in the space. The small cluttered laundry room needed more space and more storage. With a busy family it seemed to overflow daily and did not have anywhere to hide the families “in and out stuff.” Scott designed the new space with a stackable washer and dryer and much more efficiently organized cabinetry. Doing laundry is now (almost!) a pleasure and keeping everyone’s “stuff” hidden, but readily accessible is now a snap. The master bath was not a place where the couple enjoyed spending time getting ready for their day. The tub almost never was used, so removing it made it possible to build an extra-large shower, replacing the small cramped cube of the previous shower they hated. Clean, horizontal lines softly draw your eye around the space with porcelain tile called Driftwood Sea spray. Full overlay cabinetry in a soft white vanity with double sinks makes getting ready for the day much more convenient for the busy couple. Long floor planks made of porcelain tile mimic real hardwood floors in a soft grey to compliment the shower, but with the ease and care of a tile surface. Cambrian Black Granite counters with a matte finish and under mount porcelain sinks with handsome brushed chrome hardware complete the handsome space. A real bonus in any master bath; a custom built in storage nook was tucked in the corner of the space for linens and heavenly storage. The kid’s bath was in sad shape because it was original to the house. To keep the budget in control, the tub which was in great condition was retained, but focus was on the new large brick style porcelain charcoal tile on the floor, crisp white new Craftsman style cabinetry with pretty furniture details on the corner base, a striking granite top with white under mount porcelain sinks and fresh hardware and faucets. Some beautiful soft grey wood mirrors to match mom and dads were custom sized and placed under new lighting, and 4 hooks were smartly arranged down the wall for kids’ towels. This couple was determined not to move, and made their house their dream home. Not only does their home function greatly now, but Jackie says, “When the neighbors come to visit, they’re asking if they can “steal” the design”! Walk into the kitchen in this Poway / Rancho Bernardo, San Diego home and it's impossible to miss this gorgeous 2,000 bottle, custom wine cellar showpiece. Completed in 2018, the cellar is complete with custom walnut stained poplar wine racking, rolling ladder for out of reach bottles, and much, much more. Against each window into the kitchen are floor to ceiling frames showcasing label out, metal racking to add a bit of modern flair. Two high reveal display rows circle the entire room, showcasing this homeowner's best bottles and designed to be angled perfectly to ensure the corks stay wet for long term storage. An island in the middle of the room acts as a great spot to open and decant wines, and integrated into each side are custom pieces of cabinetry and room for side displayed large format bottles. Also integrated into the racking is a a small countertop and glass rack. Living in Santa Monica and the surrounding LA beach cities often means maximizing space in stylish yet functional ways, especially in the kitchen. Custom built-ins are an excellent solution for adding creative storage while maintaining a sleek and modern aesthetic. Whether it's a pull-out pantry hidden behind cabinet doors, built-in spice racks neatly tucked into unused corners, or a pull-out cutting board integrated into the countertop, these storage innovations help streamline daily tasks. I recently collaborated with a family in Santa Monica to design a kitchen that met their need for extra storage while keeping the design minimal. We incorporated hidden shelving behind the island and a custom-built nook for small appliances, ensuring countertops stayed clutter-free while still easily accessible. These clever built-in features offer more than just practicality—they elevate the entire kitchen experience, making it both efficient and beautiful.

This bathroom plays with both Contemporary and Craftsmen concepts. Detail elements include the following: Gorgeous glass vanity that sits atop polished nickel piping with matching faucet. Glass backspash shelf, Cherry cabinetry with custom made fabric infused glass fronts. Lighting to include underlit cabinetry and recessed lighting in ceiling. This kitchen layout stayed the same, but a huge impact was made with clean front cabinets, a warm stain, and flush modern detailing. A walk in pantry was converted into 3 adjacent pull out pantries for ease of use. A soffit was hidden behind false panels to extend the cabinetry up to the 9' ceilings. Satin glass fronts break up the wood tones beautifully, with an exquisite laser cut stone backsplash lit beautifully with undercabinet task lighting. Modern black pendants and arched sink add architectural detail and contrast to the pristine white countertops.

This custom wine cellar inside of renowned Pamplemousse Grille Restaurant in Del Mar, San Diego, California is truly an eye catcher. Originally built for Pamplemousse's 5th anniversary, this wine cellar proves classic and timeless with distressed maple doors and traditional redwood racking behind them. Vintage Wine Cellars and Jeffrey Strauss, famed Chef and incredible philanthropist in San Diego, have a long history of working together.. In addition to this cellar and multiple others in the Pamplemousse Restaurant grounds, we also had the pleasure of designing and building Jeffrey's personal home cellar as well. A little more about the restaurant display cellar: Originally designed and built by Vintage Wine Cellars in 2001, this custom wine room boasts triple deep redwood wine racking, a three opening door system, and room for up to 800 bottles. Jackie and Sean loved the Algonquin neighborhood they lived in with the peaceful neighborhood and the close proximity to work and school. What they didn’t love was how outdated their home had become. With a cramped kitchen and an unused dining room, they decided a remodel was the perfect solution to their problem. They would be able to continue to live in the area they loved, while at the same time they could have the dream home they envisioned. After a thorough search, Jackie came across Advance Design Studio. She was impressed by all of the positive reviews she saw on the internet and saw herself identifying with all of the project stories she saw on the website. Once they met with designer Scott Christensen and owner Todd Jurs, they knew Advance Design was the right company to make their dreams a reality. The project consisted of four main areas: the kitchen/dining/powder room, the laundry room, the master bathroom, and the kid’s bathroom. They wanted to expand the kitchen into the seldom used dining room and add a large island for hosting parties and family gatherings. They also wanted new hardwood flooring throughout the first level. The laundry room needed to be more functional, and all three bathrooms were in dire need of updating. The closed off kitchen was opened up to create a sweeping space between the new eating area and the much larger kitchen. A handsome dry bar complete with a beverage refrigerator and lighted glass door cabinetry makes an elegant transition across from a peninsula area filled with storage. An additional decorative cabinet lighting up elegant dishware through the mullioned glass sits directly across from the drybar. An expansive island was critical to the kitchen plans. Jackie, Sean and Scott worked closely together to create just the right details for their design. They wanted the island to be functional in addition to being the centerpiece of the room. Added storage for the kid’s school supplies was hidden behind cabinet doors so the children could do their schoolwork right at the island, and a microwave drawer glides open with the touch of a finger hidden inconspicuously within the island space. The easy to care for Cambria Britannica Quartz island top with its sweeping grey and white marble look perched atop hand-carved Craftsman corbels was absolutely what they were hoping for, blending both beauty and function perfectly. Adding a nice contrast to the brightness of the quartz and the white cabinetry, Kodiak - Leather granite countertops were used to balance the light and dark tones of the space. Dura Supreme Classic White painted cabinets grace the perimeter, while Maple Poppy Seed stained cabinets with a beautiful soft grey woodgrain were used in the beverage center and island. The two tones compliment the large space balancing it out nicely creating interest and elegance with the simple Craftsman style full overlay doors. A deep warm Barnwood White Oak flooring was added throughout the lower level. The new floor brings additional contrast to the bright kitchen and provides unity with the now open floorplan as it rolls in to the foyer and family room. Final details like the show-stopping lunar like duo light fixtures complete the space and intermix expertly with crisscross details of the glass door mullions, the island bar seating and even accessories in the space. The small cluttered laundry room needed more space and more storage. With a busy family it seemed to overflow daily and did not have anywhere to hide the families “in and out stuff.” Scott designed the new space with a stackable washer and dryer and much more efficiently organized cabinetry. Doing laundry is now (almost!) a pleasure and keeping everyone’s “stuff” hidden, but readily accessible is now a snap. The master bath was not a place where the couple enjoyed spending time getting ready for their day. The tub almost never was used, so removing it made it possible to build an extra-large shower, replacing the small cramped cube of the previous shower they hated. Clean, horizontal lines softly draw your eye around the space with porcelain tile called Driftwood Sea spray. Full overlay cabinetry in a soft white vanity with double sinks makes getting ready for the day much more convenient for the busy couple. Long floor planks made of porcelain tile mimic real hardwood floors in a soft grey to compliment the shower, but with the ease and care of a tile surface. Cambrian Black Granite counters with a matte finish and under mount porcelain sinks with handsome brushed chrome hardware complete the handsome space. A real bonus in any master bath; a custom built in storage nook was tucked in the corner of the space for linens and heavenly storage. The kid’s bath was in sad shape because it was original to the house. To keep the budget in control, the tub which was in great condition was retained, but focus was on the new large brick style porcelain charcoal tile on the floor, crisp white new Craftsman style cabinetry with pretty furniture details on the corner base, a striking granite top with white under mount porcelain sinks and fresh hardware and faucets. Some beautiful soft grey wood mirrors to match mom and dads were custom sized and placed under new lighting, and 4 hooks were smartly arranged down the wall for kids’ towels. This couple was determined not to move, and made their house their dream home. Not only does their home function greatly now, but Jackie says, “When the neighbors come to visit, they’re asking if they can “steal” the design”! This wonderful bespoke country kitchen was designed and built for our clients’ new oak-framed extension at their Grade II listed home in the historic village of Billingshurst in West Sussex. Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery undertook the entire kitchen project which includes a hidden walk-in pantry, bar unit and solid hardwood windows. The owners wanted to achieve a high-quality interior that stayed true to the traditional character and heritage of their property. Their keen eye for design is evident in their chosen sophisticated colour palette and finishes. An AGA® was to be a focal point and key feature of the kitchen layout, and we designed the cabinetry to align perfectly with the extra depth and height of the cooker, leaving no unsightly gaps. There are no upper wall cabinets in this kitchen which creates an open airy feel and allows more natural light. Instead, a run of generous base cabinets with customised deep drawers and pull-outs, as well as a kitchen island, open shelving and large pantry provide a wealth of superb storage solutions. One empty wall has been dedicated for full-height floor to ceiling cabinets for integrated appliances and a pantry. Traditional style with a modern twist The custom-made cabinets have been traditionally constructed in an authentic shaker-style and feature solid oak dovetailed drawers. The doors and frames are in solid maple, which has a smooth grain and is an extremely hard and durable timber, and perfect for taking a painted finish. The cabinets are all spraypainted in Fired Earth Moon Grape, a deliciously distinctive purple-black colour. We then hand painted exterior surfaces for a textured effect which can also be easily touched up in the future. The shaker style in this striking dark colour adds grandeur to the space, without feeling too overbearing or showy. All the kitchen cabinets are internally finished with premium quality Egger MFC. The hardwearing Unistone worktops are Nero Assoluto with a Velluto finish - a durable, jet black, velvet-like black texture, which gives depth without gloss. Hidden walk-in pantry Floor-to-ceiling doors neatly conceal an impressive hidden walk-in pantry, which we cleverly integrated into the overall kitchen design. As soon as you open the doors, the interior shelves are automatically illuminated by a motion-activated sensor. Every inch of space has been utilised with a range of open shelving laden with artisan ingredients, deep handcrafted drawers and basket storage, perfect for storing anything from vegetables to fresh bread. Beautiful bespoke bar unit Innovative pocket doors fold elegantly away to reveal a stunning well-equipped bar with a vibrant pink glass back panel and painted interior. This bright pink is a signature colour from the 1970s - Leather by Little Greene. The colour is a strategic choice by our clients to create a statement and infuse their home with an uplifting, spirited atmosphere. Undershelf lighting and a spotlight are activated as soon as the doors are opened enhancing the wow factor. Bespoke freestanding island featuring upcycled wood A focal point of the room, the kitchen island provides extra storage and worktop space. We handcrafted the island in solid hardwood with the top was once our clients’ old French dining table which we repurposed. Reusing old wood creates beautiful and unique pieces of furniture and has significant environmental benefits too. The mantle above the range cooker is salvaged timber too, made from an old oak beam.

Jackie and Sean loved the Algonquin neighborhood they lived in with the peaceful neighborhood and the close proximity to work and school. What they didn’t love was how outdated their home had become. With a cramped kitchen and an unused dining room, they decided a remodel was the perfect solution to their problem. They would be able to continue to live in the area they loved, while at the same time they could have the dream home they envisioned. After a thorough search, Jackie came across Advance Design Studio. She was impressed by all of the positive reviews she saw on the internet and saw herself identifying with all of the project stories she saw on the website. Once they met with designer Scott Christensen and owner Todd Jurs, they knew Advance Design was the right company to make their dreams a reality. The project consisted of four main areas: the kitchen/dining/powder room, the laundry room, the master bathroom, and the kid’s bathroom. They wanted to expand the kitchen into the seldom used dining room and add a large island for hosting parties and family gatherings. They also wanted new hardwood flooring throughout the first level. The laundry room needed to be more functional, and all three bathrooms were in dire need of updating. The closed off kitchen was opened up to create a sweeping space between the new eating area and the much larger kitchen. A handsome dry bar complete with a beverage refrigerator and lighted glass door cabinetry makes an elegant transition across from a peninsula area filled with storage. An additional decorative cabinet lighting up elegant dishware through the mullioned glass sits directly across from the drybar. An expansive island was critical to the kitchen plans. Jackie, Sean and Scott worked closely together to create just the right details for their design. They wanted the island to be functional in addition to being the centerpiece of the room. Added storage for the kid’s school supplies was hidden behind cabinet doors so the children could do their schoolwork right at the island, and a microwave drawer glides open with the touch of a finger hidden inconspicuously within the island space. The easy to care for Cambria Britannica Quartz island top with its sweeping grey and white marble look perched atop hand-carved Craftsman corbels was absolutely what they were hoping for, blending both beauty and function perfectly. Adding a nice contrast to the brightness of the quartz and the white cabinetry, Kodiak - Leather granite countertops were used to balance the light and dark tones of the space. Dura Supreme Classic White painted cabinets grace the perimeter, while Maple Poppy Seed stained cabinets with a beautiful soft grey woodgrain were used in the beverage center and island. The two tones compliment the large space balancing it out nicely creating interest and elegance with the simple Craftsman style full overlay doors. A deep warm Barnwood White Oak flooring was added throughout the lower level. The new floor brings additional contrast to the bright kitchen and provides unity with the now open floorplan as it rolls in to the foyer and family room. Final details like the show-stopping lunar like duo light fixtures complete the space and intermix expertly with crisscross details of the glass door mullions, the island bar seating and even accessories in the space. The small cluttered laundry room needed more space and more storage. With a busy family it seemed to overflow daily and did not have anywhere to hide the families “in and out stuff.” Scott designed the new space with a stackable washer and dryer and much more efficiently organized cabinetry. Doing laundry is now (almost!) a pleasure and keeping everyone’s “stuff” hidden, but readily accessible is now a snap. The master bath was not a place where the couple enjoyed spending time getting ready for their day. The tub almost never was used, so removing it made it possible to build an extra-large shower, replacing the small cramped cube of the previous shower they hated. Clean, horizontal lines softly draw your eye around the space with porcelain tile called Driftwood Sea spray. Full overlay cabinetry in a soft white vanity with double sinks makes getting ready for the day much more convenient for the busy couple. Long floor planks made of porcelain tile mimic real hardwood floors in a soft grey to compliment the shower, but with the ease and care of a tile surface. Cambrian Black Granite counters with a matte finish and under mount porcelain sinks with handsome brushed chrome hardware complete the handsome space. A real bonus in any master bath; a custom built in storage nook was tucked in the corner of the space for linens and heavenly storage. The kid’s bath was in sad shape because it was original to the house. To keep the budget in control, the tub which was in great condition was retained, but focus was on the new large brick style porcelain charcoal tile on the floor, crisp white new Craftsman style cabinetry with pretty furniture details on the corner base, a striking granite top with white under mount porcelain sinks and fresh hardware and faucets. Some beautiful soft grey wood mirrors to match mom and dads were custom sized and placed under new lighting, and 4 hooks were smartly arranged down the wall for kids’ towels. This couple was determined not to move, and made their house their dream home. Not only does their home function greatly now, but Jackie says, “When the neighbors come to visit, they’re asking if they can “steal” the design”! This wonderful bespoke country kitchen was designed and built for our clients’ new oak-framed extension at their Grade II listed home in the historic village of Billingshurst in West Sussex. Acorn Bespoke Carpentry and Joinery undertook the entire kitchen project which includes a hidden walk-in pantry, bar unit and solid hardwood windows. The owners wanted to achieve a high-quality interior that stayed true to the traditional character and heritage of their property. Their keen eye for design is evident in their chosen sophisticated colour palette and finishes. An AGA® was to be a focal point and key feature of the kitchen layout, and we designed the cabinetry to align perfectly with the extra depth and height of the cooker, leaving no unsightly gaps. There are no upper wall cabinets in this kitchen which creates an open airy feel and allows more natural light. Instead, a run of generous base cabinets with customised deep drawers and pull-outs, as well as a kitchen island, open shelving and large pantry provide a wealth of superb storage solutions. One empty wall has been dedicated for full-height floor to ceiling cabinets for integrated appliances and a pantry. Traditional style with a modern twist The custom-made cabinets have been traditionally constructed in an authentic shaker-style and feature solid oak dovetailed drawers. The doors and frames are in solid maple, which has a smooth grain and is an extremely hard and durable timber, and perfect for taking a painted finish. The cabinets are all spraypainted in Fired Earth Moon Grape, a deliciously distinctive purple-black colour. We then hand painted exterior surfaces for a textured effect which can also be easily touched up in the future. The shaker style in this striking dark colour adds grandeur to the space, without feeling too overbearing or showy. All the kitchen cabinets are internally finished with premium quality Egger MFC. The hardwearing Unistone worktops are Nero Assoluto with a Velluto finish - a durable, jet black, velvet-like black texture, which gives depth without gloss. Hidden walk-in pantry Floor-to-ceiling doors neatly conceal an impressive hidden walk-in pantry, which we cleverly integrated into the overall kitchen design. As soon as you open the doors, the interior shelves are automatically illuminated by a motion-activated sensor. Every inch of space has been utilised with a range of open shelving laden with artisan ingredients, deep handcrafted drawers and basket storage, perfect for storing anything from vegetables to fresh bread. Beautiful bespoke bar unit Innovative pocket doors fold elegantly away to reveal a stunning well-equipped bar with a vibrant pink glass back panel and painted interior. This bright pink is a signature colour from the 1970s - Leather by Little Greene. The colour is a strategic choice by our clients to create a statement and infuse their home with an uplifting, spirited atmosphere. Undershelf lighting and a spotlight are activated as soon as the doors are opened enhancing the wow factor. Bespoke freestanding island featuring upcycled wood A focal point of the room, the kitchen island provides extra storage and worktop space. We handcrafted the island in solid hardwood with the top was once our clients’ old French dining table which we repurposed. Reusing old wood creates beautiful and unique pieces of furniture and has significant environmental benefits too. The mantle above the range cooker is salvaged timber too, made from an old oak beam.

Walk into the kitchen in this Poway / Rancho Bernardo, San Diego home and it's impossible to miss this gorgeous 2,000 bottle, custom wine cellar showpiece. Completed in 2018, the cellar is complete with custom walnut stained poplar wine racking, rolling ladder for out of reach bottles, and much, much more. Against each window into the kitchen are floor to ceiling frames showcasing label out, metal racking to add a bit of modern flair. Two high reveal display rows circle the entire room, showcasing this homeowner's best bottles and designed to be angled perfectly to ensure the corks stay wet for long term storage. An island in the middle of the room acts as a great spot to open and decant wines, and integrated into each side are custom pieces of cabinetry and room for side displayed large format bottles. Also integrated into the racking is a a small countertop and glass rack.
