High-end first impressions start the moment you step inside the home, where elegant glass French doors create a bright, airy entrance that establishes a warm, inviting welcome for guests. The Sand Cliffs project was a great modern dwelling built by Artisan Builders of Seagrove Beach in Florida. We constructed walnut cabinets throughout the kitchen and master bath. They incorporated a horizontal plank and an integrated, recessed finger pull within the wood for a very streamlined, modern look. This helped to accentuate the striking grain pattern and beautiful, varied wood tones of the walnut. The floating walnut shelves incorporated recessed led lights. Many design aspects, not just the cabinets of this house came together to create a great example of a modern beach dwelling that has a warm, inviting feel with rich color tones and contrast without feeling fussy and over the top. These clients are empty nesters with grown children and several grandchildren living nearby. They love hosting family gatherings for special occasions and wanted a large space with durable materials and neutral, yet interesting finishes. The large island and perimeter countertop allow space for buffet-style get-togethers, while also feeling perfectly scaled to have breakfast for two from the counter stools. They wanted everything to be of lasting quality, but not feel too precious, so their grandchildren can still have fun running on the porcelain floors and baking on the quartz counters. The clients desired a cohesive space with the best materials, exhibiting a streamlined appeal that still felt welcoming and catered to all their storage needs. The surfaces are low maintenance for easy clean-up and sanitation. The clients wanted custom, solid-wood cabinetry with natural finishes, for an organic element and visual warmth. The design intent for this space was to create an open, serene Kitchen utilizing a functional layout, quality materials, and organic elements. The area is grounded by dark terrazzo-looking porcelain and uplifted by contrasting light fixtures. We wanted this room to be inviting through a variety of textures and layered lighting, as it is situated at the heart of the home. With custom cabinetry, the highest caliber appliances and thoughtful hardware, this Kitchen is sure to stand the test of time. Additionally, clients wanted to hide certain items in the kitchen, such as electronics, appliances, cookbooks, trash, and recycling. Storage for sheet trays, knifes, spices, cutlery and cooking utensils were required. Open display shelves for collectables from travels and an area for a coffee & smoothie bar were also desired. The island incorporates a hidden charging station for electronics, open shelving for cookbooks, while housing an instant hot and chilled water dispenser at the sink. The cabinetry also has a hidden trash and recycling center, specialty spice and cooking utensil pull-outs, drawers with custom inserts for knifes, cutting boards, cutlery, and tableware. An appliance garage allows room for the stand mixer and toaster to be out of sight, but within reach. A lighted coffee and smoothie bar were planned for the clients’ love of coffee and healthy nutrition. The island and floating shelves are made of oak panels with inlaid brass, adding a subtle touch of sparkle and warmth that highlights gold flecks in the island countertop.

By the architectural standards of Southampton, New York—where magnificent old piles built by Yankee blue bloods and extravagant contemporary mansions constructed by moguls of finance and industry are perched along one of Long Island’s toniest beaches—entrepreneur J. Christopher Burch’s house is a modest affair. Most buyers in this community would likely have torn down the ranch-style structure, which clocks in at 6,000 square feet, and replaced it with an imposing Georgian Revival or Shingle Style residence, replete with pomp and pergolas. But its unassuming character suited Burch, the founder and CEO of Burch Creative Capital and the man behind the retro-preppy lifestyle retailer C. Wonder. “I didn’t want anything too grand,” he says. “I wanted it to feel more like a cottage than an estate.” Modifications, however, were necessary to bring the place up to snuff—namely streamlining the awkward floor plan and upgrading the surfaces. New Jersey architectural designer Marina Lanina stripped the building down to its wood frame and reconfigured the interior, more or less hewing to the original footprint save for an expanded kitchen at the rear. Lanina, who honed her skills in the office of interior designer David Kleinberg, also added guest quarters above the attached garage and, at the opposite end of the home, constructed a second-floor master suite. Bridgehampton-based landscape designer Joseph Tyree recast the 2.75-acre grounds with, among other touches, a charming parterre garden that is visible from the master bedroom’s small balcony. The getaway exhibits the spirited, all-American styling of C. Wonder, but the brand’s candied hues are toned down. “I didn’t really want to do my stuff in the house,” Burch says, adding that he began the renovation before launching C. Wonder in 2011 with a flagship store in Manhattan. The residence is instead New York interior designer Christopher Maya’s interpretation of his client’s somewhat eccentric taste, which Burch himself describes as “a very quirky sense of classicism.” The decorator’s first meeting with the entrepreneur was inspiration enough. “Chris was sitting in the conference room with colleagues, a pink Hermès scarf wrapped around his head. I thought, This is going to be fun,” Maya recalls. The designer soon set about conjuring schemes for each room of the dwelling, aiming for an inviting, energetic atmosphere reflective of Burch’s playful personality. Every inch of molding and trim gleams with pristine lacquerlike finishes. To offset that snappy sheen, some walls are papered in grass cloth, while others are meticulously upholstered with boldly patterned fabrics. The colors are lively—Carolina-blue in the master bedroom, buttery yellow in a guest room—and the overall ambience is light and relaxed. “A lot of houses in the Hamptons are so formal, it’s like being in a Park Avenue apartment,” Maya says. “I thought the house should be fun—when guests walk in, they should feel right away like they’re about to have a fantastic weekend.” Cerused-oak floors, sisal carpets, and the occasional rattan armchair further the casual vibe. The oak-paneled library is as sober as it gets, but an apple-green sofa and a Billy Baldwin slipper chair clad in a peridot-green leopard print leaven the mood. Accenting the room is a striking etching of an owl with its wings spread wide; it is one of several artworks by Walton Ford that Burch had purchased before the project started and which turned out to fit right in with the palette Maya conceived. Burch also asked the designer to incorporate some furniture from a line the investor has developed for No. 9 Christopher, a lifestyle concept store he plans to open in Manhattan next year. Maya customized the pieces, including painting a Jansen-inspired desk in brilliant royal blue and an Asian-style cocktail table in a brash Dick Tracy–yellow. “The house is a little electric in spots, but I’m not scared of color,” says Burch, who sums up the place in his typically punchy style: “It’s cool. It’s small. It’s very happy.”

This kitchen is a great example of creativity. By removing the soffit, adding cabinets by the window, and wrapping cabinetry around a corner, this space becomes inviting and cohesive. When the homeowners were asked what they wanted in their new kitchen, they had this to say . . . “keeping the breakfast bench area where everyone gathers, increasing the counter space (which was accomplished by moving the pantry), and figuring some storage and a small counter area by the window that doesn’t block the window itself (accomplished with the angled top). With all the streamlined design elements, the colors brought in by the homeowner really make the space unique and fun.

The space opens with an expansive island topped with a clean, light surface and wrapped in warm Mouser cabinetry that immediately feels inviting. The microwave is discreetly built into the island with a pull out design, keeping the space clean while making access easy. Classic pendant lighting adds just the right amount of contrast while keeping everything bright and open. As you move through the kitchen, crisp white cabinetry creates a timeless backdrop and guides you toward the cooking area, anchored by a statement Wolf range and a custom hood that blends seamlessly into the design. The main refrigerator and dishwasher are fully integrated with custom cabinetry panels, allowing them to disappear into the design rather than stand out. At the sink, a Kohler faucet adds a polished, functional touch that works just as well for everyday use as it does when entertaining. Just beyond the main kitchen is a custom coffee bar designed to feel like a destination of its own. When open, it offers a beautifully detailed space for slow mornings and hosting. When not in use, two custom doors close to keep the kitchen looking clean and streamlined. Nearby, a Sub Zero wine refrigerator is thoughtfully placed for easy access when guests are over. Every detail in this kitchen was chosen to complement the home’s waterfront setting, creating a space that feels comfortable, elevated, and meant to be enjoyed.

A notable pinch point in the plan—where differing geometries converged—was treated as a hinge point, turning a potentially awkward juncture into an architectural feature. The design also addressed the underutilized outdoor area, which was located in a shadowed portion of the site with geometrical limitations. A new connection to the rear deck was created in this same area, making the outdoor space more useful and inviting. Klopf Architecture introduced carefully positioned openings and spatial improvements that forged a strong visual and functional connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor area now reads as a deliberate extension of the home, embracing natural light and emphasizing the dramatic views. When our client approached us with a budget of $1,000 and a two-month timeline, she was looking to revive her outdated walk-in closet. The old setup was literally falling apart and so cramped that it hardly lived up to the name "walk-in." Our mission was to breathe new life into this space, transforming it into a functional and inviting retreat. We kicked off the transformation by applying fresh paint and crafting custom storage solutions that precisely matched our client's needs. She had been struggling with locating her shoes, hidden away in old shoe boxes, and her handbags scattered throughout. Our solution was a wallet-friendly, adaptable shoe storage system that keeps everything in sight and easily accessible, evolving right along with her collection. One of our client's priorities was ensuring comfort for her adorable, cuddly dogs who love spending time in the closet. We chose a washable rug that not only complements the decor but also withstands the occasional mess, maintaining a cozy vibe. Adding a personal touch, we showcased her cherished wedding shoes and incorporated vintage knobs from her daughter's nursery into the design, making the closet feel uniquely hers. To streamline her daily routine, we introduced a practical, stylish hamper on wheels, enabling easy transport of laundry from the closet to the laundry room. The decluttering process was initially overwhelming for our client. With patience and a fresh perspective, we helped her let go of five bags of high-quality clothes and shoes. This not only cleared up physical space but also made room for new beginnings and experiences in her life. This project was much more than a simple renovation; it was about creating a space that reflects and supports our client's lifestyle, complete with thoughtful touches that make it truly special.

Updated amenities include large windows on both stories with expansive views that make it perfect for lakefront lots, with stone accents, floor plan and overall design that are anything but traditional. Inside, the floor plan is spacious and airy. The 2,200-square foot first level features an open plan kitchen and dining area, a large living room with two story windows, a convenient laundry room and powder room and an inviting screened in porch that measures almost 400 square feet perfect for reading or relaxing. The three-car garage is also oversized, with almost 1,000 square feet of storage space. The other levels are equally roomy, with almost 2,000 square feet of living space in the lower level, where a family room with 10-foot ceilings, guest bedroom and bath, game room with shuffleboard and billiards are perfect for entertaining. Upstairs, the second level has more than 2,100 square feet and includes a large master bedroom suite complete with a spa-like bath with double vanity, a playroom and two additional family bedrooms with baths.

The clients came to us looking to refresh their Kitchen and Bathroom. They were happy with their existing layout, but wanted better use of their refrigerator space. The clients were especially concerned with including as many green elements as possible. This included reusing appliances, reusing as much cabinetry as possible, and reusing their Kitchen faucet. Because the cabinetry was in such great condition, we were able to update their look by installing new Full Overlay Shaker Door and Drawer fronts. Two additional green elements to the design of the kitchen space included recycled glass countertops and custom tile backsplash from a local tile artisan – Mercury Mosaics. For the design of the bathroom, we wanted to keep it traditionally charming, with a little bit of Modern flair. We kept the layout the same, but updated the space with new Carrara Marble hexagon tile, white subway tile, new recessed medicine cabinet, and new linen cabinet. The bathroom got a major refresh with new plumbing fixtures and adding a modern streamlined light fixture above the mirror.
