Bedroom: The art on the wall is a piece that the homeowner brought back from a trip to France. The room feels luxe and romantic. Walk in Closet: The walk in closet features built in cabinetry including glass doored cabinets. It offer shoe storage, purse storage and even linens. The walk in closet has recessed lighting. Master Bathroom: The master bathroom offers a make-up desk and plenty of lights and mirrors! Utilizing both pendant and recessed lighting, the bathroom feels bright and white even though it is a combination of white and beige. The white shaker cabinets are contrasted by a dark granite countertop. Favoring a large shower over a tub we were able to include a large niche for storage. The tile and floor are both limestone.

This Grand Rapids Township homeowner had a clear picture of the high-end finishes they wanted, but needed a partner to bring all the pieces together into one beautiful kitchen. Since this remodel was the first phase of a longer-term plan for the home, it also needed to fit seamlessly with the existing house today while remaining timeless enough to feel current even after later phases are complete. When a Historic District home was renovated in Fort Myers, a dream kitchen was created: open plan enough for gathering, with clearly delineated areas for cooking, reading and entertaining. Challenge Bill and Alison’s existing kitchen was small and dysfunctional. Each room seemed independent, and there was no flow through the house. The house felt small, with one entry and exit point. As a planning consultant, Bill was no stranger to construction. He was a general contractor himself and had built several custom homes in years past. As a gardening enthusiast and professional educator, Alison also had an eye for design. They started with design, layout and planning on their own, but soon realized they needed help. After interviewing several contractors who seemed overwhelmed and unenthused by their project, they reached out to Progressive Design Build. Solution Mike was not only enthused about the project, but he established trust with Bill and Alison. Within a few short weeks he was hired to begin the planning phase, conducting thorough research on the project, meeting key subcontractors and establishing a realistic budget. When the project began, internal walls were removed to open up the kitchen/dining areas and an island was built, giving the space an open and modern functionality. The eating area was enlarged, and a visual connection to the outside was established using Marvin insulated glass windows with Low E coatings—which rejects solar heat gain without reducing visible light passing through the glass. In order to allow for the open concept layout that Bill and Alison desired, we built new structural beams to transfer the live load. The sliding patio doors opened onto a small terrace with a wrought iron handrail creating access to the private courtyard and garden area. Finishing details included custom cherry cabinets and wood trimming, 16” x 32” natural stone flooring, granite countertops and historically correct plaster finishes. Result The project was completed within budget and two weeks ahead of schedule. “That planning phase was the best money we spent on the project,” exclaimed Bill. “It was incredibly gratifying being able to watch the subcontractors and suppliers come and go with shared leadership and attention to details.”

This multi-phased project to a midcentury rambler in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul that started with a broken swimming pool, outdated finishes and one less bedroom than kids and slowly transformed with Nordic design influences and an emphasis on showcasing the owner’s art collection. The first phase design solution was a two-bedroom, one bath kid’s wing addition over the garage and a kitchen remodel to visually connect the living and dining areas. The kitchen cabinets are IKEA boxes with custom Grey Elm door fronts. All windows were replaced with new H Windows as well as new white oak hardwood floors installed on the main level complementing the entire home’s light and airy Scandinavian interior design. The existing two main level bedrooms were converted into a primary suite with an office/flex space and the existing bathroom was updated to serve as an ensuite bathroom. Clear cedar soffits were installed to add visual warmth throughout the year and creates visual contrast to the black exterior of the house. Stained cedar slats were installed to provide visual interest and provide shade and shadow interplay. The unfinished basement was updated to create a media room as well as a home office. The original gunite pool was restored a new poolside patio space and a stone patio off the house used for outdoor dining were installed.

From this vantage point we can see the other side of the room, which features a spectacular red lacquered Chinese cabinet, sourced from Wertz Bros, and a Rose Tarlow black lacquer and gold console in the corner, serving as a drinks area. Artwork is largely vintage, including an 1870's era map of US Territories, and Russian and Mongolian prints of turn-of-the-century costumes. Fabrics are layered in and repeated, like toile pillows with fancy Schumacher fringe on the sofas, to match the side chairs, and small Kathryn Ireland bolsters to repeat the Victorian chair and ottoman in the corner. Pink/Cranberry leopard print velvet from Timothy Corrigan for Schumacher pillows add an unexpected punch of modern color and glamor.

This closet is an absolute dream. This master bedroom Dressing room /closet has ample space and room for clothing, shoes, handbags and more.. The island holds additional storage. The granite stone top and textured wall paper adds richness and casual elegance to the room The custom designed closet system is beautifully planned and installed leaving nothing to chance. The closet system is made of a cream color laminate material that gives the room a light and airy feel. A door with a mirror inlay is the entrance to this bathroom. The white, hexagonal Carrera marble floor combines beautifully with the white subway tiles on the wall and the Carrera marble countertop. The built-in storage cabinet with wavy glass was built right into the wall, maximizing space and adding storage. What started as an addition project turned into a full house remodel in this Modern Craftsman home in Narberth, PA. The addition included the creation of a sitting room, family room, mudroom and third floor. As we moved to the rest of the home, we designed and built a custom staircase to connect the family room to the existing kitchen. We laid red oak flooring with a mahogany inlay throughout house. Another central feature of this is home is all the built-in storage. We used or created every nook for seating and storage throughout the house, as you can see in the family room, dining area, staircase landing, bedroom and bathrooms. Custom wainscoting and trim are everywhere you look, and gives a clean, polished look to this warm house. This home had a generous master suite prior to the renovation; however, it was located close to the rest of the bedrooms and baths on the floor. They desired their own separate oasis with more privacy and asked us to design and add a 2nd story addition over the existing 1st floor family room, that would include a master suite with a laundry/gift wrapping room. We added a 2nd story addition without adding to the existing footprint of the home. The addition is entered through a private hallway with a separate spacious laundry room, complete with custom storage cabinetry, sink area, and countertops for folding or wrapping gifts. The bedroom is brimming with details such as custom built-in storage cabinetry with fine trim mouldings, window seats, and a fireplace with fine trim details. The master bathroom was designed with comfort in mind. A custom double vanity and linen tower with mirrored front, quartz countertops and champagne bronze plumbing and lighting fixtures make this room elegant. Water jet cut Calcatta marble tile and glass tile make this walk-in shower with glass window panels a true work of art. And to complete this addition we added a large walk-in closet with separate his and her areas, including built-in dresser storage, a window seat, and a storage island. The finished renovation is their private spa-like place to escape the busyness of life in style and comfort. These delightful homeowners are already talking phase two of renovations with us and we look forward to a longstanding relationship with them.

These clients were such a joy to work with and made what, at times, was a challenging job feel seamless. This project consisted of two phases, the first being a reconfiguration and update of their master bathroom, guest bathroom, and hallway closets, and the second a kitchen remodel. In keeping with the style of the home, we decided to run with what we called “traditional with farmhouse charm” – warm wood tones, cement tile, traditional patterns, and you can’t forget the pops of color! The master bathroom airs on the masculine side with a mostly black, white, and wood color palette, while the powder room is very feminine with pastel colors. When the bathroom projects were wrapped, it didn’t take long before we moved on to the kitchen. The kitchen already had a nice flow, so we didn’t need to move any plumbing or appliances. Instead, we just gave it the facelift it deserved! We wanted to continue the farmhouse charm and landed on a gorgeous terracotta and ceramic hand-painted tile for the backsplash, concrete look-alike quartz countertops, and two-toned cabinets while keeping the existing hardwood floors. We also removed some upper cabinets that blocked the view from the kitchen into the dining and living room area, resulting in a coveted open concept floor plan. Our clients have always loved to entertain, but now with the remodel complete, they are hosting more than ever, enjoying every second they have in their home.
