Modern family loft renovation. A young couple starting a family in the city purchased this two story loft in Boston's South End. Built in the 1990's, the loft was ready for updates. ZED transformed the space, creating a fresh new look and greatly increasing its functionality to accommodate an expanding family within an urban setting. This close-up showcases LP SmartSide cedar shakes, trim and fascia. LP SmartSide cedar shakes provide the look of authentic cedar shakes but with much less maintenance. Rather than individual shakes, they come in four-foot lengths with both staggered and straight edges for design flexibility.

This photo highlights the lovely custom-designed and built cabinets by Draper DBS that feature a gray pearl finish that brings an understated elegance to the semblance of a "white kitchen". White calcutta marble tops and backsplashes add to the clean feel and flow of the space. Also featured is a custom designed and manufactured stainless steel range hood by Rangecraft. This is the view of the kitchen from the dining room, you can see the bay windows that overlook the lake to the left and in front the windows and slider that open to the outdoor kitchen/dining area. The entire kitchen and dining area is trimmed in white MDF, with white crown molding. The wall color is a very soft gray by Sherwin Williams called "First Star." Client wanted to add an island and tall storage · Large window looked out onto neighbor’s back yard · Garage door/entry, landed right into kitchen Design Solutions · Raised the floor, move/add all mechanical · Galley kitchen put all appliances on one wall · 38”height counters on appliance wall made a comfortable working height for the tall clients · Shallow cabinets were installed on the kitchen side of the Island/snack bar at 42”height, with 12” over hang backside for 4 chairs ·Tall pantry cabinets for china, small appliances, food and brooms/vacuums storage, 12 feet in length and 15 inches deep ·Remove a large window and install 112” X 18” awing window in back splash. While giving up the unneeded view, it retained the natural light · Added a bench and hooks by the garage door for coats and purses Special Features · Contemporary style with walnut wood and gloss-lacquer cabinets · Black granite counter with 3.5” mitered edge, add the extra height the client requested · Ash Wood (stained to match the walnut cabinets) counter top on island with live edge · Brown marble tile back splash to blend with the tile elsewhere in the home · Unique custom storage: tip up cabinet doors, pull out with containers for knives and utensils, Servo-drive double waste basket · Hands-free faucet, bling pendant lights

Built from the ground up on 80 acres outside Dallas, Oregon, this new modern ranch house is a balanced blend of natural and industrial elements. The custom home beautifully combines various materials, unique lines and angles, and attractive finishes throughout. The property owners wanted to create a living space with a strong indoor-outdoor connection. We integrated built-in sky lights, floor-to-ceiling windows and vaulted ceilings to attract ample, natural lighting. The master bathroom is spacious and features an open shower room with soaking tub and natural pebble tiling. There is custom-built cabinetry throughout the home, including extensive closet space, library shelving, and floating side tables in the master bedroom. The home flows easily from one room to the next and features a covered walkway between the garage and house. One of our favorite features in the home is the two-sided fireplace – one side facing the living room and the other facing the outdoor space. In addition to the fireplace, the homeowners can enjoy an outdoor living space including a seating area, in-ground fire pit and soaking tub.

The homeowners started by hiring an architect to develop a vision and plan for transforming their very traditional brick home into a contemporary family home full of modern updates. The Kitchen Studio of Glen Ellyn was hired to provide kitchen design expertise and to bring the vision to life. The bamboo cabinetry and white Ceasarstone countertops provide contrast that pops while the white oak floors and limestone tile bring warmth to the space. A large island houses a Galley Sink which provides a multi-functional work surface fantastic for summer entertaining. And speaking of summer entertaining, a new Nana Wall system — a large glass wall system that creates a large exterior opening and can literally be opened and closed with one finger – brings the outdoor in and creates a very unique flavor to the space. Matching bamboo cabinetry and panels were also installed in the adjoining family room, along with aluminum doors with frosted glass and a repeat of the limestone at the newly designed fireplace.
