It was our challenge to design a piece that not only fit this remarkable environment, but also echoed and complemented it. Taking shapes from the cactus garden and trees around the site, as well as colors from the flowering plants visible nearby, we designed a spiral structure that could be seen from any vantage point on the property, inside or out. The design provides a completely different look from every angle. Simply moving around the piece, even slightly, changes perspectives in such a way that the very character of the piece changes. The design of the ceramic pieces suggests movement even more with their finlike shapes cutting through the air around them. This homeowner approached us seeking to remodel this compact-sized Bathroom to provide better accessibility and a design that complemented the unique architecture and style of her Northwestern home. This new Bathroom design includes a few features that significantly increase the size that this Bathroom feels, without changing the footprint of the Bathroom. The key components which make all the difference are the open curbless shower, the larger light-colored wood vanity, and the wider pocket door which replaced the small hinged door. This Bathroom includes plentiful amounts of storage, found in the built-in linen cabinet, vanity full-extension drawers, and recessed medicine cabinet. The designer, inspired by the unique light switch covers around the house and the Elm tree etched into the glass of Marilyn's Primary Bathroom, suggested a pine tree graphic be imprinted on the glass panel for a statement piece as you enter or walk by this Guest Bathroom. We removed all the wood paneling in the Living Room just outside of this Bathroom, and instead updated the wood-panel style in this home by installing cedar tongue and groove paneling to the ceiling of this Bathroom. The different Northwestern elements are tied together with the door lintel piece that was installed to match the existing door and window lintels that the client's husband had installed throughout the house 10 years ago. We love how this Bathroom remodel provides the functionality that our client was needing, and fits right in with the style of the rest of the home.

The homeowners of this Marblehead residence wished to remodel their master bathroom, which had been redone only a few years prior. The previous renovation, however, was not a pleasant experience and they were hesitant to dive-in again. After an initial conversation, the homeowners agreed to meet with me to discuss the project. listened to their vision for the room, paid close attention to their concerns, and desire to create a tranquil environment, that would be functional and practical for their everyday lifestyle. In my first walk-through of the existing bathroom, several major issues became apparent. First, the vanity, a wooden table with two vessel sinks, did not allow access to the medicine cabinets due to its depth. Second, an oversized window installed in the shower did not provide privacy and had visible signs of rot. Third, the wallpaper by the shower was peeling and contained mold due to moisture. Finally, the hardwood flooring selected was impractical for a master bathroom. My suggestion was to incorporate timeless and classic materials that would provide longevity and create an elegant environment. I designed a standard depth custom vanity which contained plenty of storage. We chose lovely white and blue quartzite counter tops, white porcelain tile that mimic the look of Thasos marble, along with blue accents, polished chrome fixtures and coastal inspired lighting. Next, we replaced, relocated, and changed the window style and shape. We then fabricated a window frame out of the quartzite for protection which proved to give the shower a lovely focal point. Lastly, to keep with the coastal theme of the room, we installed shiplap for the walls. The homeowners now look forward to starting and ending their day in their bright and relaxing master bath. It has become a sanctuary to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We're calling this project our "Love It Or List It" project because our clients were debating whether or not they wanted to renovate or put their home on the market while the market was hot. Inspiration for a modern master bathroom remodel in Calgary with an undermount sink, flat-panel cabinets and quartzite countertops

The client was referred to us by the builder to build a vacation home where the family mobile home used to be. Together, we visited Key Largo and once there we understood that the most important thing was to incorporate nature and the sea inside the house. A meeting with the architect took place after and we made a few suggestions that it was taking into consideration as to change the fixed balcony doors by accordion doors or better known as NANA Walls, this detail would bring the ocean inside from the very first moment you walk into the house as if you were traveling in a cruise. A client's request from the very first day was to have two televisions in the main room, at first I did hesitate about it but then I understood perfectly the purpose and we were fascinated with the final results, it is really impressive!!! and he does not miss any football games, while their children can choose their favorite programs or games. An easy solution to modern times for families to share various interest and time together. Our purpose from the very first day was to design a more sophisticate style Florida Keys home with a happy vibe for the entire family to enjoy vacationing at a place that had so many good memories for our client and the future generation. Tidal Marsh Overlook Our client asked Flavin Architects to envision a modern house on a steeply sloped site overlooking the Annisquam River in Cape Ann, MA. The home’s linear layout is oriented parallel to the contours of the hillside, minimizing site disturbance. The stacked massing and galvanized steel detailing of the home recall the industrial vernacular of the Gloucester waterfront, and the dark color helps the house settle into its wooded site. To integrate the house more fully with its natural surroundings, we took our client’s suggestion to plant a tree that extends up through the second-floor deck. An exterior steel stair adjacent to the tree leads from the parking area to a second-floor deck and the home’s front door. The first-floor bedrooms enjoy the privacy provided by black painted wood screens that extend from the concrete pad to the second-floor deck. The screens also soften the view of the adjacent road, and visually connects the second-floor deck to the land. Because the view of the tidal river and wetlands is improved by a higher vantage point, the open plan kitchen, living, and dining areas look over the deck to a view of the river. The master suite is situated even higher, tucked into the rear on the third floor. There, the client enjoys private views of the steep woodland bank behind the house. A generous screen porch occupies the front of the house, facing the marsh, providing space for family gatherings and a sleeping porch to enjoy the breezes on hot summer nights.
