The island's back and side panels are made as if time The kitchen hutch though finished in the same color as the other cabinetry is subtly altered in design details to support the sense of the home's age - 80 years of living. This is a piece with true barred glass doors, the upper supported and connected by side brackets, a wooden paneled back connected to the base, along with bracketed plynth all contribute to the furniture quality of this hutch within the kitchen. Designed to serve the needs of children readying everyday lunches the hutch encloses refrigerators, storage for wraps, bags and straws! Custom design serves a household best when the needs of function are well understood and planned for. The cabinets were custom designed by Tom, with straight, simple lines, and custom built by Draper DBS of walnut, with a deep, rich brown finish. The richness of the dark cabinetry juxtaposed with the elegance of the white carrara marble on the countertop, wall and floors contributes to the room's sophistication. Ample storage is found in the large vanity and an armoire style cabinet, designed to mimic a free-standing furniture piece, that is positioned behind the door. Architectural beams placed across the vaulted ceiling bring a sense of scale to the room and invite natural light in through the skylight.

Sleek open kitchen with pops of color and interest. Custom cabinetry is a mix of blue and bamboo slab front, carrying the cutout design from the mudroom in lieu of hardware. Quartz countertops and backsplash finish out the space.

Tucked neatly into an existing bay of the barn, the open kitchen is a comfortable hub of the home. Rather than create a solid division between the kitchen and the children's TV area, Franklin finished only the lower portion of the post-and-beam supports. The ladder is one of the original features of the barn that Franklin could not imagine ever removing. Cleverly integrated into the support post, its original function allowed workers to climb above large haystacks and pick and toss hay down a chute to the feeding area below. Franklin's children, 10 and 14, also enjoy this aspect of their home. "The kids and their friends run, slide, climb up the ladder and have a ton of fun," he explains, "It’s a barn! This home was fully remodeled with a cape cod feel including the interior, exterior, driveway, backyard and pool. We added beautiful moulding and wainscoting throughout and finished the home with chrome and black finishes. Our floor plan design opened up a ton of space in the master en suite for a stunning bath/shower combo, entryway, kitchen, and laundry room. We also converted the pool shed to a billiard room and wet bar.
