Amy didn’t feel her office reflected her personality or style, or coordinated with the other updates made on the main floor of her home. She wanted an office that was pretty, felt inviting and comfortable for her to do office work, read or knit. She also wanted to provide seating for others to relax in the room with her and areas to display family photos, décor and house electronics. Painted in a subtle yet beautiful blush color, new life was breathed into the room. A desk and file cabinet with accents of antiqued mirrors added sparkle to the work area. A cozy desk chair, custom lounge chairs and an ottoman created with feminine fabrics provided comfortable seating. The matching bookcases hid unsightly electronics and cords and provided a landing place for treasured photos. The walls were adorned with a tapestry and framed art to add colors and textures, with the seating area grounded by a silver rug. The room was completed with florals to add that soft organic element to tie in the beautiful gardens that surround the home.

Transitional living room photo in Orlando

My clients for this project wanted to erase from their newly purchased home the style choices of the previous owners. Eager to make their own impression, we decided to turn the dining room into more of a statement space with elegant wood paneling, a grand carved wooden dining table, and a sense that a feast was about to take place. I thought of it as Modern Medieval! The guest dining chairs are covered in a tapestry-like material of paisley and leopard while the host chairs, bigger and more luxuriously scaled, are covered in a soft olive green leather. Hanging above is a lighting fixture that recalls ancient round candelabras. Below is a rug in camel and gold with an organic pattern of branches and leaves. Wall sconces, a mirrored buffet with iron rings, and custom draperies finish the look. At night during dinner parties, the metallic gold ceiling reflects the chandelier and sconces, giving the room a glamorous, warm glow. Photo by Bernardo Grijalva

The study/piano room was originally quite dark, with huge oversized tapestry covered chairs. My client was game to completely start over with this room. She fell in love with a chartreuse/gray combination of fabrics that I'd pulled together for her. We also used a cowhide area rug with a chain pattern in different shades of cream and gray. The result was so fresh and chic, I think this is the favorite room for both of us!
