What surprises people most when entering and walking on the glowing white surface in this particular Private Residence (Williamsburg, VA) is when they find out they are walking on a sea of glass! Yes, GLASS! Not marble, not granite, but GLASS! Nathan Allan has created a very fresh, unique flooring surface, which is smooth to touch on the majority of the glass surface, yet has an almost invisible safety finish permanently embedded in the glass surface.
THE GLASS
Nathan Allan’s Glass Flooring incorporates features which are visually stunning, while also providing a safety finish which provides comfort to everyone walking on the glass. Our Sandstone texture is forged into the bottom surface of the glass, while our exclusive Glass Sandpaper safety finish is fused onto the walking surface. To enhance all features, we added a bright, sparkling, White Metallic color finish throughout each flooring panel.
SPECIFICATIONS
Each Glass Flooring panel is produced in 1/2″ (12mm) thick, Low Iron, tempered safety glass. Tempered glass provides added strength, insuring that the Glass Flooring can accept a heavy load. Panels vary in size and dimension, with most panels measured at a block size of 5’0 x 6’0 (1500mm x 1800mm). Perimeter Edge panels were carved and shaped to fit tightly against the curved walls. Glass Sandpaper, ASTM tested in labs with the highest slip-coefficient safety ratings, is fused onto the walking surface, to provide a very comfortable and effective safety feature.
Flooring Glass Details:
1/2″ (12mm) thick, Low iron tempered safety glass
Flat Polished Edges
Glass Sandpaper on walking surface
Sandstone texture on bottom surface
White Metallic color finish on bottom surface
Panels sizes up to 5’0 x 6’0
Approximately 800 square feet of glass flooring
Perimeter panels shape cut to fit
Almost overshadowed by the spectacular flooring is a 1.5” thick, Heavy Glasstop, Crescent shaped, with Nathan Allan’s Rocky Mountain texture.
DESIGN
A White Sea of Glass flooring is the finished result of combining a light Sandstone texture on the bottom glass surface, with the added touch of a sparkling White Metallic color finish. Combined with our Glass Sandpaper safety finish, and the natural and artificial light sources, our Glass Flooring shimmers within the entire entrance space.
INSTALLATION
Using very important installation techniques, Nathan Allan worked hand in hand with great team of professionals: Vicki Bristow, designer, W. M. Jordan Company, GC, and Pompei Inc, glass flooring installer. Templates were produced for all perimeter edge panels, and every shaped panel. All flooring panels are secured to the substrate with special adhesives, and joints are filled with matching color sealants.
“A beautiful project is always enhanced when working with quality, prestigious builders, and talented trade’s people. The tight organization and open communication by all the team members contributed greatly to a project proceeding seamlessly, with the incredible visual results to prove it.” Barry Allan – Director

Evergreen successfully completed this comprehensive kitchen renovation on Coronado Island, one of the most stunning destination in Southern California, transforming the space into a modern, functional culinary hub that balances aesthetic appeal with technical precision.
The renovation required careful structural planning, beginning with the removal of existing cabinetry and assessment of electrical and plumbing systems. We relocated water supply lines and drainage to accommodate the new island configuration, ensuring all connections met current building codes. The electrical system was upgraded to support modern appliances, including dedicated 220V circuits for the range and additional outlets strategically placed for small appliances.
The centerpiece island incorporates integrated appliances, requiring precise cutouts and reinforced support structures. We installed a dishwasher with proper venting and water connections, while maintaining seamless cabinetry lines. The ventilation system was redesigned to handle the open-concept layout, with a powerful range hood that ensures proper air circulation.
Flooring installation utilized engineered hardwood with proper moisture barriers and expansion gaps, essential for kitchen environments. The white quartz countertops were templated on-site for perfect fit, with careful attention to seam placement and undermount sink installation.
In the other side, the color palette combines crisp white perimeter cabinets with a contrasting dark island, creating visual depth. Three oversized pendant lights provide both task and ambient lighting, while recessed LED fixtures ensure even illumination. Black fixtures and hardware tie the modern aesthetic together, while natural wood tones add warmth to the contemporary space.

The Glass is the water line.
The elegant early lines of the golden era of yachting owe much to the eye of the master tradesman.Half models of intended designs were carefully shaped by our early boat builders.
Once happy with the shape of these half hulls, often only 18” or 2’ long, they would “loft” the lines onto the floor of their workshop and create full size plans of the intended boat from these early prototypes.
All done with the keen eye of a true craftsman. “The Bailey is a tribute to the skill and passion of New Zealand’s early shipwrights”. It is with this attention to graceful lines and technique in mind, we created the Bailey Table. Using traditional techniques and tools such as the draw blade and spokeshave these tables are crafted by hand and eye to an almost silky, fluid finish. A joy to touch and view from almost any angle.
Almost organic in touch and line, there are few straight lines to this sculpturally aesthetic piece.

This kitchen in Lexington came together in BSI Zurich granite, and it's the kind of stone that does a lot of the work in a room just by sitting there. Zurich has a cool gray background with movement that breaks up into darker flecks and softer crystal patches, so it reads calm from across the room but keeps your eye busy up close. That range makes it easy to live with next to most cabinet colors, whether the boxes are painted white, a soft gray, or a warmer wood tone.
Granite like this is quarried in big blocks and cut into slabs, and no two slabs come out exactly the same. That's part of why we template each kitchen on site instead of working off a generic plan. We measure the actual cabinets, account for the sink and cooktop cutouts, and lay out the slabs so the veining and pattern flow the way they should across the island and the runs of counter, especially where two pieces meet at a seam. Getting that seam tight and matched so it disappears into the pattern takes a steady hand and slabs picked with the layout in mind from the start.
Granite is one of the toughest countertop materials you can put in a kitchen. It shrugs off hot pans, resists scratching from everyday knife work, and holds up to the kind of daily traffic a real kitchen sees, dishes, coffee, kids doing homework at the island, all of it. It does need to be sealed, and staying on top of that keeps it looking like day one for years. We finished this one with an eased edge, clean and simple, which is the right call for a stone with this much going on in the surface. It doesn't need extra shaping to look finished.
Lexington's seen a lot of kitchens go through updates like this one, and granite remains a favorite around the Midlands because it holds up to how people actually cook and live. This Zurich kitchen is a good example of why: a stone with real character, installed tight and clean, that's going to keep earning its keep for a long time.
