The main space connects to a private conversation space for two where a small water feature is nestled among the plantings. Dappled shadows on the walkway add to the romance of this shot.

This project was an exploration in taking and urban corner lot and transforming it into and urban farm of sorts. The project incorporated rainwater tanks, raised vegetable beds, fruit trees, chicken coop, prefab studio, composite deck, poured in place concrete, pre-cast concrete, custom wood features, a green wall, custom bench/fountain, lighting, swimming pool with solar hot water heating, an outdoor kitchen, drip irrigation which is controlled by smart phone, landscape lighting which can be controlled by smart phone. A fun project where we melded contemporary elements with sustainable/ self sufficient principles.

A closer look of the front landscaping in front of the attached garage. The plants have yet to fill in completely, but will cover most of the mulched area within 3 years to limit the amount of mulch used and time spent weeding. The main color theme used through the front landscaping was blues, purples and whites with frosty green colors. Inspiration was taken from Italian country landscapes. The large Hydrangea was existing and is one of the plants on the property that the deer had not yet chewed to nothing. A Kousa Dogwood stands where a large Callery Pear once stood. Removing the large weak wooded tree helped to add more sunlight the front landscaping so the same plants could be used to make the look cohesive. As the dogwood grows it can be trimmed to allow people to walk under the branches in dappled sunlight.

Daylilies (Hemerocallis) have been used in Oriental cuisines for centuries. The young buds are edible, provided they are grown in uncontaminated, organic soil. They come in a wide variety of colours, ranging from brilliant reds to cool whites and even bicolours! The flowers could also be used as table decoration for a tropical theme, but remember that the individual flowers only last for a day! On the other hand, the plant as a whole has an extended period of bloom, spanning from July to September in our growing zone.

This garden area was completely reworked. It was totally overgrown with a dirt path. We created a pathway out of flagstone and inserted small walking grass in between. The Torri gate was built by a local man for the garden. When you walk under the gate it is thought you leave the present world and enter the spiritual world. Which was significant because this is where the sacred garden is. The two gold glass homage statues stand over her two beloved animals, Pinda her dog and Lilly her cat who died at 13 while we were working on the garden.
