Example of a large transitional l-shaped light wood floor and brown floor open concept kitchen design in Denver with an undermount sink, shaker cabinets, white cabinets, quartz countertops, black backsplash, ceramic backsplash, stainless steel appliances, an island and white countertops

In the primary bath, all of the original features had been removed, except for the low sloped MCM ceiling that was prominently interrupted by a rectangular AC soffit that was added on later. We relocated the AC ducting to vent through the floor instead, and once again revealed the bath’s iconic low sloped triangular ceiling. Then, we began re-creating the new MCM space from the floor up. We widened the original primary bath by 2’ to accommodate an enclosed toilet room, at the request of the homeowners. This was quite a feat, as it required structural engineering to relocate one vertical steel column that interfered with the new toilet room layout. The new 14’ tall steel column, which supported part of the steel roof trusses, had to be extended through the home’s bathroom floor and into a cave underground secured by a concrete pier. Oh, did I mention that this home has a cave under part of it? Haha—when I say that this home was a challenge to remodel, I do mean it was a CHALLENGE.

The goal of Pineapple House designers was to stay within existing footprint while improving the look, storage capabilities and functionality of the master bath. Along the right wall, they replace the existing tub with a freestanding Roman soaking tub. Glass shower walls lets natural light illuminate the formerly dark, enclosed corner shower. Along the left wall, a new double-sink vanity has hidden storage in tall, slender doors that are configured to mimic columns. The central section of the long vanity has a make-up drawer and more storage behind the mirror. Along the back wall, a custom unit houses a television that intentionally blends into the deep coloration of the millwork. An under counter refrigerator is located in the lower left portion of unit.

The most dramatic part of this remodel is taking out the non load bearing wall to the family room. We kept columns on either side of the island to run electrical for the island since this house is on a slab. We added extra cabinets for a butler pantry and wine fridge storage.

Here is the completed family room looking towards the new bar. We raised the the bottom chord of the roof truss to gain ceiling height from 8ft to 10ft. We enlarged the connection between the family rm and new kitchen to make it one space. The mantle was refinished and tile was added around the fireplace. New book shelves were added flanking the fireplace.

This master bath was dark and dated. Although a large space, the area felt small and obtrusive. By removing the columns and step up, widening the shower and creating a true toilet room I was able to give the homeowner a truly luxurious master retreat. (check out the before pictures at the end) The ceiling detail was the icing on the cake! It follows the angled wall of the shower and dressing table and makes the space seem so much larger than it is. The homeowners love their Nantucket roots and wanted this space to reflect that.

This San Marcos walk-in shower was renovated with white wavy shower tile walls and stunning vibrant blue hue accent tiles to add some texture. One of our favorite features is the shower shelves in this uniquely shaped shower enclosure! Scott Basile, Basile Photography
