Mid-sized mountain style backyard stone patio kitchen photo in Sacramento with no cover

This outdoor bar great for your next pool party! On the Florida coast we deal with salty air that can rust outdoor grills quickly. In this design we built the cabinetry around the space you would typically have for a built in grill but this one is completely free-standing.

Recently I had the opportunity to design and create an outdoor oasis with a life long client and her husband. Their dream was to spend more entertaining hours outside in their south-facing backyard with family and friends.
These featured photos capture an eye-catching but functional space, beautifully designed and engineered with well thought-out details for all to love and enjoy. A project that every neighbor swoons over today.
Thank you to the following contractors and product suppliers that made this backyard go from builder basic to an open air, al-fresco dining, get away retreat.

Custom BBQ counters are not complete without a granite top. right? In this counter we had space for storage, a Traeger, A smoker, sink and a pizza oven!
It also has the same stone fascia to match the walls throughout the property.

Custom Outdoor Kitchen was built around the man of the house's Traeger Grill. Travertine Countertop and Canyon Ledgestone were used to create a beautiful area that is viewed from inside the home.

We designed this covered porch with the outdoor kitchen at one end and the outdoor fireplace at the other end. The wood-burning fireplace has room for a large-screen TV over the mantel. We designed the fireplace with firewood boxes to hold plenty of wood on either side of the hearth. The outdoor kitchen is U-shaped and contains a built-in area to house the homeowners’ Traeger smoker/grill.

Set in a backyard with a beautiful pool but little shade, this Houston project was designed to solve two key problems. Problem number 1 was sun exposure and the second problem was a poorly laid-out outdoor kitchen. The homeowners reached out to our team looking for a modern, functional solution.
At the heart of this transformation is a 16×32 cantilevered aluminum pergola, one of the longest we can build without front posts. This design creates uninterrupted open space beneath the structure, offering full visibility and maximum flexibility for layout and movement. The pergola features insulated roof panels (IRP) in a striking sandalwood finish that mimics tongue-and-groove wood. The structure’s frame and roof are all aircraft-grade aluminum, making it both stylish and durable—ideal for Houston’s heat and humidity.
Six recessed can lights and dual ceiling fans were installed to ensure the area stays cool and usable day or night. All electrical runs were cleanly concealed within the IRP, keeping the minimalist design intact.
Beneath the pergola, we installed 2×2 pearl white alpine smooth cast pavers in a diamond pattern. These pavers blend seamlessly with the existing turf, bringing brightness and texture to the space while maintaining a soft, luxurious feel underfoot.
The old L-shaped kitchen was removed and replaced with a full-length custom build across the back of the patio. It’s outfitted with everything a backyard chef could want: a built-in grill, burners, sink, Big Green Egg, Traeger smoker, and a slide-out fridge. The kitchen was carefully designed to maximize the available space while meeting city code, with all components permitted and engineered.
To complete the entertainment zone, we built a custom CMU TV wall, finished with Trex paneling for warmth and texture. It includes a wall-mounted flat-screen, Sonos speakers, and a discreetly hidden mini amplifier for seamless AV integration. All wiring is cleanly tucked away, keeping the look sleek and modern.

These photos are from a project in NW Portland we completed in 2024. Here we installed a lean-to / shed roof style outdoor covered structure to extend the roof line of the house over the patio and outdoor kitchen, a custom paver patio, 2 custom outdoor kitchen areas with both a built-in traeger grill and a blackstone grill, a custom natural gas fire pit, stone masonry fire pit and seat wall, custom steps with pavers and stone masonry, skylights and lighting built into the covered structure and hardscape lighting. All of this really made the most of a compact backyard area!
