Home Basement Renovation The previously unfinished basement has undergone a remarkable transformation and now boasts an entirely new living space. With this addition, the overall square footage of the house has expanded, providing more room for relaxation and entertainment. This old farmhouse (ca. late 18th century) has undergone many renovations over the years. Spring Creek Design added its stamp in 2008, with a small mudroom addition and a complete interior renovation. The addition encompasses a 1st floor mudroom with extensive cabinetry and closetry. Upon entering the space from the driveway, cabinet and countertop space is provided to accommodate incoming grocery bags. Next in line are a series of “lockers” and cubbies - just right for coats, hats and book bags. Further inside is a wrap-around window seat with cedar shoe racks beneath. A stainless steel dog feeding station rounds out the amenities - all built atop a natural Vermont slate floor. On the lower level, the addition features a full bathroom and a “Dude Pod” - a compact work and play space for the resident code monkey. Outfitted with a stand-up desk and an electronic drum kit, one needs only emerge for Mountain Dew refills and familial visits. Within the existing space, we added an ensuite bathroom for the third floor bedroom. The second floor bathroom and first floor powder room were also gutted and remodeled. The master bedroom was extensively remodeled - given a vaulted ceiling and a wall of floor-to-roof built-ins accessed with a rolling ladder. An extensive, multi-level deck and screen house was added to provide outdoor living space, with secure, dry storage below. Design Criteria: - Update house with a high sustainability standard. - Provide bathroom for daughters’ third floor bedroom. - Update remaining bathrooms - Update cramped, low ceilinged master bedroom - Provide mudroom/entryway solutions. - Provide a window seating space with good visibility of back and side yards – to keep an eye on the kids at play. - Replace old deck with a updated deck/screen porch combination. - Update sitting room with a wood stove and mantle. Special Features: - Insulated Concrete Forms used for Dude Pod foundation. - Soy-based spray foam insulation used in the addition and master bedroom. - Paperstone countertops in mudroom. - Zero-VOC paints and finishes used throughout the project. - All decking and trim for the deck/screen porch is made from 100% recycled HDPE (milk jugs, soda, water bottles) - High efficiency combination washer/dryer.

This Denny Blaine Seattle home had undergone a second story addition renovation prior to the new homeowner purchasing the house. The new homeowner came to H2D Architecture + Design with a vision to upgrade the finishes throughout all floors of the home, add an elevator, enlarge the garage and add a roof top deck. H2D worked closely with the homeowner to develop the new design features for the home. The main driver of the design layout was the cylindrical pneumatic vacuum elevator, which was installed in the central core of the home to serve all three floors of the home. This project was the first permitted installation of the pneumatic vacuum elevator in the State of Washington. Around the cylindrical elevator, the other three floors were renovated with a new layout and finishes. The lower floor consisted of a new media room and secondary kitchen. The main floor was designed with a living room, office, kitchen and dining areas. The upper floor was redesigned with a new stair leading to the new roof top deck. In addition, the garage was expanded on the front of the house to create additional garage space with a roof deck above serving the office space. The front yard was regraded and landscaped with a series of modern retaining walls and landscaping. The overall finished design of the home was clean, crisp and modern. This kitchen remodel in Lakewood has undergone such an amazing transformation from a dark, dated space to bright and functional! We experienced many obstacles in this tight space but was able to design around the challenges to create a beautiful and functional space. The original design intent was to bring the cabinets all the way to the ceiling but found out this wasn’t an option as all the soffits had interior mechanical systems and couldn’t be reconfigured. One solution was to raise the soffits on the range and sink walls to gain an extra 6” of cabinet space and build out the soffit above the refrigerator to create a custom built-in look. This extension of the soffit created the perfect opportunity for a narrow pantry cabinet facing the dining room which adds much needed storage space. By painting the soffits the same color as the cabinets, we were able to install the crown trim on top of the soffit in lieu of the cabinets to create the illusion of taller cabinets and lengthening the ceiling height. We omitted the wall cabinet to the left of the range to create a more open space both visibly and functionally. This provided the opportunity to install an accent pendant over the open counter which has been lowered to maintain one counter height throughout for a seamless look. Decorative door panels give the perfect finishing touches on the cabinetry and truly convey a custom look. The cabinets were finished in Waypoint’s Shaker style in Linen color and were paired with Amrock’s stunning gunmetal finish hardware. The existing floor tile was replaced with Daltile’s Forest Park Maple wood-look plank which now extends into the dining room creating a natural separation of kitchen/dining space to the adjacent Family room. The warmth of the floor tile compliments the Linen cabinetry color and Gunmetal finishes throughout. This beautiful kitchen offers a beautiful and functional design solution and we are thrilled our client can love their personalized kitchen for many years to come!

Since then, it has undergone several renovations, the most recent of which was the kitchen. The original kitchen was split between two rooms - a casually used butler's pantry and a well-used kitchen. By removing the wall between these two rooms the eating and cooking area was expanded so that the cooks could always be in touch with the family room and eating area.
