An American family with three young children, living in Geneva Switzerland wanted a vacation property in Los Angeles and were thrilled to find a brand new contemporary home 2 blocks from the beach in Redondo Beach. This 3,200 square foot home with four bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths was designed by Los Angeles architect Patrick John Killen, founder and Managing Principal of Studio 9 one 2. Both the husband and the wife in this family have built careers in the fashion industry and wanted their home to reflect their international sense of style while still being a comfortable and playful environment for their children - and to honor the fact that this is - after all - a beach house. Surf's Up! The house is close enough to the beach to receive lots of ocean air and breezes; the property is also designed with an abundance of glass in large sweeping windows that flood this very open floor plan with natural light. The extra large patio that is revealed by sliding back several large glass panel doors expands the primary living area to include this outdoor space. The rooftop deck offers an additional private lounge area for daytime sunning or sunset cocktails with a teasing glimpse of the ocean and a panoramic view of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Each bedroom has its own private bath and there is a fireplace in one of the two living rooms and in the Master suite, to warm those South Bay evenings. Cabinets and Countertop: This master bath features new Woodmont cabinet door and drawer fronts, maple wood, Raised Panel door style, and an Antique White painted finish. The countertops are a 3cm Cambria quartz in Fairbourne complete with a matching splashlette. Tile: The shower walls, curb, tub side of 36” wall, side and back of niche features a Marble Systems 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 Diana Royal honed tile in brick lay. In the same material, we have a 1x1 straight lay on the shower floor, ½ x 12 pencil liner to outline the picture frame, and a 1x1 diagonal lay inside picture frame with accents of 1x1 Interglass Shimmer Snowdrift from Interceramic. Lastly, the main bath floor features a diagonal lay 18x18 also in Diana Royal honed tile from Marble Systems. In the corners, we have inserts of Interglass Shimmer Snowdrift 1x1 as a 2x2 square from Interceramic. Fixtures: From Toto, we have Atherton vanity sinks in Cotton, and Promenade two-piece toilet also in Cotton. The drop-in tub is a Kohler Underscore in White. Faucets, faucet handles, tub filler, shower head, and shower control are from Sigma 510 Series in a Satin Gold. Other fixtures include: toilet paper holder, towel rings, towel bars, and robe hooks are also from Sigma 510 Series in a Satin Gold finish.

Serenity doesn’t preclude visual interest or texture. In this primary bath, both are achieved while still preserving the relaxing environment. The double vanity is underscored by two sets of wide flat-panel drawers, painted in Wales Gray. Their width is accentuated by full-length polished brass pulls. The linear theme is carried into the shower with alternating bands of ivory lizard-textured stacked 4×6 tiles and gray penny rounds. More horizontal lines are found in the brass and glass sconces over the mirrors. A 3” thick countertop continues down the sides of the vanity as virtual legs, with an LED illuminated toe kick for a floating effect. Flooring is porcelain tiles with surprising inlays of beach-glass colored penny rounds at the vanity and in the shower. Instead of a sheet-rocked wall between the vanity and shower, this design features a unique frosted and etched glass divider. It extends the sight lines in the room, increases the flow of light, and maintains an open feel in the shower. This main bath is the epitome of rich materiality, executed with a nuanced hand.
