This complete fireplace wall renovation erased the 1980's and resulted in a modern inviting family room retreat.

The client went with ProVia simulated divided lite fiberglass doors with sidelites for both houses, flooding the entryways with natural light. While true divided lites are separate panes of glass divided by muntins, simulated divided lights are one piece of glass overlaid by an external grille. Simulated divided lites offer the depth and dimension of a true divided lite with greater energy efficiency. They chose matching matte black hardware for each. For the primary house, they selected a ProVia Signet Fiberglass Entry Door in a rich espresso stain.

Referencing the wife and 3 daughters for which the house was named, four distinct but cohesive design criteria were considered for the 2016 renovation of the circa 1890, three story masonry rowhouse:
1. To keep the significant original elements – such as
the grand stair and Lincrusta wainscoting.
2. To repurpose original elements such as the former
kitchen pocket doors fitted to their new location on
the second floor with custom track.
3. To improve original elements - such as the new "sky
deck" with its bright green steel frame, a new
kitchen and modern baths.
4. To insert unifying elements such as the 3 wall
benches, wall openings and sculptural ceilings.

The homeowners wanted to create an unparalleled entertainment space, so the back of the guest house was completely transformed. They repurposed the existing garage, added a new luxury garage, and built a covered patio space. Marvin Bi-Fold Doors, shown partially opened, on the bar are undoubtedly the centerpiece of the remodel, and now the space can be used year-round.

This project was purposefully neutralized in ocean grays and blues with accents that mirror a drama filled sunset. This achieves a calming effect as the sun rises in the early morning. At high noon we strived for balance of the senses with rich textures that both soothe and excite. Under foot is a plush midnight ocean blue rug that emulates walking on water. Tactile fabrics and velvet pillows provide interest and comfort. As the sun crescendos, the oranges and deep blues in both art and accents invite you and the night to dance inside your home. Lighting was an intriguing challenge and was solved by creating a delicate balance between natural light and creative interior lighting solutions.
