A cramped and dated kitchen becomes a light, bright, and spacious great room through the removal of a wall dividing the kitchen from the living and dining rooms. The new cabinet plan is expanded into an unused breakfast nook enlarging the functional space. Efficient storage is designed with the addition of a tall pantry cabinet fitted with roll-out shelves, ample use of convenient drawer storage, trash and recycling pull-out, and an appliance garage designed to hide away an assortment of countertop appliances. Before the renovation, this area had a raised concrete pad and too much concrete, leading to an unusable area that was too hot. A patio cover, newly poured smaller concrete, and the introduction of planter beds which intercept the heat all make for a more usable patio.

Our clients already had a cottage on Torch Lake that they loved to visit. It was a 1960s ranch that worked just fine for their needs. However, the lower level walkout became entirely unusable due to water issues. After purchasing the lot next door, they hired us to design a new cottage. Our first task was to situate the home in the center of the two parcels to maximize the view of the lake while also accommodating a yard area. Our second task was to take particular care to divert any future water issues. We took necessary precautions with design specifications to water proof properly, establish foundation and landscape drain tiles / stones, set the proper elevation of the home per ground water height and direct the water flow around the home from natural grade / drive. Our final task was to make appealing, comfortable, living spaces with future planning at the forefront. An example of this planning is placing a master suite on both the main level and the upper level. Challenges of a Small Kitchen. "How can we add a dishwasher and increase storage to our already small kitchen?" A good question for sure. We tucked the refrigerator into what had been a hall closet, encorporated a neat rolling cabinet/cutting board 'under' the new (handmade by owner) oak table, replaced a window into a new place, removed an space wasting unused brick chimney, strategically added many storage cabinets and removed bearing walls. The countertops are a combination of soapstone and Quartzite. We even squeezed in the "small but pretty" farm sink! "Lance Kramer (project manager) kept us informed every step, kept the job clean, did great work" ...and with a twinkle in his eye ... " I'd recommend you do not fire him". Richard L." The client had several requirements for this Seattle kids bathroom remodel. They wanted to keep the existing bathtub, toilet and flooring; they wanted to fit two sinks into the space for their two teenage children; they wanted to integrate a niche into the shower area; lastly, they wanted a fun but sophisticated look that incorporated the theme of African wildlife into the design. Ellen Weiss Design accomplished all of these goals, surpassing the client's expectations. The client particularly loved the idea of opening up what had been a large unused (and smelly) built-in medicine cabinet to create an open and accessible space which now provides much-needed additional counter space and which has become a design focal point.

This family was referred to me by another of my clients. They requested that I help them with their 2 daughter’s loft area. At the time, it was uninviting, didn’t get much use and there was unused space in the existing layout, which wasn’t conducive to gathering. They gave me a great canvas to start with: wood floors, dark moldings and clean white walls. I had a couple of things I had to incorporate into the design plan which were: a wall mounted TV with speakers and an elliptical machine. I came up with a floor plan that tied all the areas of the loft together and made the space more inviting. New furniture was purchased and I layered in decor and accessories that now make it feel like a youthful, but not too young, cool hang out space.

A dated and unused pool is transformed into an outdoor oasis that can be enjoyed year round. Ridley Wills worked with his client to make the space inviting and elegant. The house seemed to double in size!

Our clients came to us with a desire to expand what was a fairly small kitchen in a large 1977 home. Many of the main living spaces were unused, so the existing kitchen and former dining room were combined into a new, large kitchen that includes 2 large walnut topped islands, a bar area, and an organizational area for mail and crafts. What was created was a room that allows the family to cook, entertain and play all in one area. The amount of storage space in this kitchen was fully maximized through custom pantry cabinets, pull out accessories and more. The perimeter cabinets were topped off with beautiful, classic Cambria quartz counters that resemble marble – a finish that fits perfectly into this traditionally styled home. The traditional style was played up through unique cement tiles, subway tiles, wired glass cabinet door inserts, a farm style sink, and oil rubbed bronze finishes. The appliances were a definite upgrade as well, reusing the single oven in the island and adding a large 36” range. In the end, this show-stopping kitchen is now a family friendly oasis for everyone from the cooks to the kids.

The original master bathroom in this home had a separate tub and shower with lots of unused space and a cramped vanity area. Riverside Construction removed the tub and shower and added a large, steam shower complete with a seat and large window. With the reclaimed space, a new vanity area with seating was added including speciality storage for curling irons and hair dryers. Beautiful finishings like the Rivera pebble shower floor by Emser tile, Pergamino granite countertops and custom linen storage completed this beautiful master bathroom remodel.

A referral from Facebook Group, these clients were on a timeline to get into their newly purchased home that needed a whole lot of updating! We first tackled their flooring and stair railing, so they could move in. We then got to work on their owner's suite bathroom, which had a lot of unused space and outdated finishes. A few of the things we changed: we turned a built in tub to a freestanding, changed the orientation of the shower and made it larger, and swamped out a built in vanity for a freestanding furniture vanity.

This historic Los Angeles home renovation presented a challenge as we made improvements to modernize the layout, increase the brightness, while retaining the classic style and snug footprint. This family home was enlivened by the enlargement of the kitchen, adding skylights, and removing the ceilings. The ceiling removal revealed an unused space above the carport that was transformed into a loft home office complete with glass railing and built-in bookshelves. The floors and fireplace were refinished with an eye to the authenticity of the historic Spanish style, and the original front door was updated with glass panels for light, and restored to retain the charm of the Tudor-style exterior.

Che Interiors worked closely with our client to plan, design, and implement a renovation of two children’s rooms, create a mudroom with laundry area in an unused downstairs space, renovate a kitchenette area, and create a home office space in a downstairs living room by adding floor to ceiling room dividers. As the children were growing so were their needs and we took this into account when planning for both kids’ rooms. As one child was graduating to a big kids room the other was moving into their siblings nursery. We wanted to update the nursery so that it became something new and unique to its new inhabitant. For this room we repurposed a lot of the furniture, repainted all the walls, added a striking outer-space whale wallpaper that would grow with the little one and added a few new features; a toddlers busy board with fun twists and knobs to encourage brain function and growth, a few floor mats for rolling around, and a climbing arch that could double as a artist work desk as the little grows. Downstairs we created a whimsical big kids room by repainting all the walls, building a custom bookshelf, sourcing the coolest toddler bed with trundle for sleepovers, featured a whimsical wonderland wallpaper, adding a few animal toy baskets, we sourced large monstera rugs, a toddlers table with chairs, fun colorful felt hooks and a few climbing foam pieces for jumping and rolling on. For the kitchenette, we worked closely with the General Contractor to repaint the cabinets, add handle pulls, and install new mudroom and laundry furniture. We carried the kitchenette green color to the bathroom cabinets and to the floor to ceiling room dividers for the home office space. Lastly we brought in an organization team to help de-clutter and create a fluid everything-has-its-place system that would make our client’s lives easier.
