Utilizing the same wall tiles for the sink backsplash and shower niche, we were able to tie in the design and overall zen feel of this bathroom.

This 3,838-square-foot house sits among oaks near the top of the north-facing slope of this Portola Valley lot, along with a detached, 731-square-foot music studio linked by an outdoor deck and pool. A hay barn modeled on a traditional bank barn and a connected stable are positioned farther down the hill. To work around the trees, concrete foundations stopped short of the tree roots and allowed living spaces above to cantilever out among the branches. The house is split into two volumes — one with four bedrooms and a mudroom, the other with the living, dining and kitchen areas — connected by a small, glass-box entryway. The barnlike volumes are clad in cedar on the outside and have interiors with concrete floors, exposed steelwork, reclaimed Douglas fir paneling and walls of windows looking out over the land. The roof over the primary living spaces also has a monitor — a raised portion lined with clerestory windows — designed to capture sunlight. We utilized hardwearing, low-maintenance materials for the built-ins and furniture, including cabinetry with crate-like drawers and zinc counters, and fabrics that wouldn’t easily be destroyed by the couple’s two dogs, three cats and muddy boots. The overall vision was definitely to return to the materials of the barn,

This ICF (Integrated Concrete Forms) cottage is based on Bob Chatham’s “Fairhope Green Home” design. The overall goal of the project was to build a house that was congruent with Fairhope's traditional cottage-style designs and was structurally certified to withstand a Category 5 Hurricane. The owners also wanted to incorporate the most energy efficient HVAC, lighting and appliances available in order to have a truly energy efficient home. Additional goals included utilizing repurposed and reclaimed materials and existing pine and pecan trees on the one-acre lot for outside and inside wood trim and shelving.

"When designing a “wow” kitchen, think of creating that one conversation piece that captures the audience in the room. The wow factor that seizes the hearts of our audience in this kitchen is the unique concrete cone that we incorporated into the island, which is utilized as a cocktail table for entertaining and conversation for guests. Another great acreage project with fantastic flow and functionality!! Utilizing natural rock and rundle for bedding as well as some bullet-proof plantings this project has great curb appeal and is easy to maintain. Mowers edge makes cutting the grass easy and all the plantings are contained within buttoned up beds. Landscape lighting and accent boulders add to the dramatic scape. PS, the little tree in the front out by the street was planted by the developer and has since been removed.

The concept of a “village” was used to promote movement among 4 independent buildings for residents and guests alike to enjoy the year round natural beauty and climate of the Golden Isles. The architectural scale and attention to detail throughout the campus is exemplary. From the heavy mud set Spanish barrel tile roof to the monolithic solid concrete portico with its’ custom carved cartouche at the entrance, every opportunity was seized to match the style and grace of the best properties built in a bygone era.

Custom Quonset Huts become artist live/work spaces, aesthetically and functionally bridging a border between industrial and residential zoning in a historic neighborhood. The open space on the main floor is designed to be flexible for artists to pursue their creative path. Upstairs, a living space helps to make creative pursuits in an expensive city more attainable. The two-story buildings were custom-engineered to achieve the height required for the second floor. End walls utilized a combination of traditional stick framing with autoclaved aerated concrete with a stucco finish. Steel doors were custom-built in-house.

This Inner Suburban Cottage is located in Tighes Hill, Newcastle, formerly an industrial area but due to it's proximity to the city is now becoming popular with young families and professionals seeking the inner city lifestyle. The client brief was to replace a rundown two bedroom miners cottage with a modern home for a family of three children and two adults on a 320sqm corner block. The design solution delivered the main house containing open living, dining, kitchen, three bedrooms, main bathroom, laundry and double garage. The large parents retreat comprising of a combined spacious bedroom, lounge and sitting area, seperate kitchen and generous ensuite is located above the double garage, connects to the house via an internal stairway and features a separate entrance to enable the space to be utilised as self-contained guest lodging. The street front facade reflects the original miners cottage with weatherboards, front porch and skillion roof while beyond the street frontage, a stylish transition to finishes such as Colorbond Nail Strip cladding and timber paneling relfect the contemporary style of the young family. Passive solar design was incorporated with north-oriented living, dining, kitchen areas featuring polished concrete slab for thermal mass. Cross-ventilation has been incorporated into the design with strategic window placement throughout. The seamless transition from indoor living areas to covered outdoor entertaining area is achieved through the polished concrete slab continuing from indoors to outdoors, at one level and large sliding stacker doors with screens.

Our client contracted us to design and build a yard with simple but dramatic curb appeal as well as low maintenance and functionality for a busy family that lives on the water. Utilizing retaining walls we stepped up from the dock and beach up to a large synthetic grass area as well as a trampoline and sitting areas. A massive side yard left lots of room for family games and a dog run, as well as storage for water toys. Enjoy the many lakeside sunsets guys!!!

The project was designed by Giuseppe Abbrancati and installation was done by Gappsi professionals. This small backyard space was utilized to fit a swimming pool, patio, and cooking island. The swimming pool comes with many amenities along with porphyry patio and coping. A 28 x 28 x 14 L shaped vinyl lined swimming pool was built with many options, including LED lights, a gas heater, a chlorine salt generator, and stadium stairs across the 14 ft wide shallow area. The swimming pool was built with concrete walls and built 4 ft deep throughout the entire pool due to the high water table. Porphyry pavers and copings installed in this project, primarily contain gray colors with gold and rusty colored veins finished in a sandblasted and tumbled process. The texture and edges are very comfortable and timeless in look. They are manufactured in India in a French Pattern design. Installation was done on one inch of clean sand over four inches of poured concrete base and compacted sub base. The veneers for the cooking island are Nantucket Eldorado stacked stone, manufactured in 2 ft long panels. Custom-made corners and the yellow polished granite top for the cooking island is contrasted with the colors of the walls and the patio. All Twin Eagle appliances including a 42 inch grill, a bar sink, a garbage pail cabinet, storage cabinets, and door. Our client gave us the go ahead to "do what we do" having seen our portfolio. So this is what we did..... One of our most creative grade changes to date utilizing multiple products from Ideal Concrete and weathered boulders from the property. Our client spared no expense on this beautiful project, using massive rock slab steps on both sides of the house leading to the expansive back yard. The front utilizes natural rock for accents, address rock, and raised planters. We also used concrete edge as well as imported a 20mm aggregate from a quarry in BC for the beds to better match the house. A large paver patio in the back is the foundation for the gas custom fire pit and a dry river bed at the low spot carries any sheet drainage out the back to the natural area outside the property.

Mark Hoyle 2008 SC HBA Pinnacle Award Winner. home features a main and lower level symmetrical plan featuring outdoor living area with desires of capturing lake views. Upon entering this 6800 square foot residence a wall of glass shelves displaying pottery and sculpture greets guests as it visually separates the foyer from the dining room. Beyond you will notice the dual sided stone fireplace that extends 22 feet to the ceiling. It is intended to be the centerpiece to the home’s symmetrical form as it draws your eye to the clerestory windows that allow natural light to flood the grand living and dining space. The home also features a large screened porch that extends across the lakeside of the home. This porch is utilized for entertaining as well as acting as exterior connector for the interior spaces. The lower level, although spacious, creates a cozy atmosphere with stacked stone archways, stained concrete flooring, and a sunken media room. The views of the lake are captured from almost every room in the home with its unique form and layout.

This is a custom basement bar featuring a solid walnut bartop milled to maintain the bark. We also put in custom cast concrete counter tops with Heineken green glass inclusions, and ice maker, beer refrigerator, and cork flooring, a stemware rack, and glass shelves with LED lighting to cascade through bottles. The cabinets were custom build to conceal a sump pump and other household utility items in order to convert what was just a basement utility nook into a great place to entertain guests.
