Slab style doors in shades of gray lend drama to this landscape architecture professor/artist’s kitchen. Special heights and depths culminate in a top alignment that defines a visual upper plane extending from the kitchen to the great room (at the tops of the windows and doors) creating a unified interior horizon. On a more prosaic front, the upper cabinets were held somewhat low to be easier to reach for a shortish cook. Differing cabinet depths allow for a structural post to be integrated through the island cabinetry; the oven cabinet is held forward to align with a full depth refrigerator; and depth was added at the washer/dryer surround for needed ventilation. Also, the base cabinets were pulled forward for deeper counters to accommodate several small appliances and still allow for work area. In addition, the client wanted a built-in shelf unit to blend with existing rough hewn paneling in which to display objets d’art. An organically shaped island breaks with tradition and softens the otherwise linear nature of the room. A unique sweeping curve expands and defines the bar seating -- the wall beneath is lined with an accent stripe of cork (same materials as in the flooring) to act as a shoe-scuff deterrent for the wall. A small but significant detail - the upper doors and side of the tall microwave cabinet had to be finished Silvermist (light) while the interior, edge banding and bottom drawerhead needed to be finished in the darker Slate to continue the color theme of the kitchen. Integrated lighting was also a mandatory component of this kitchen - indirect top, bottom, picture and toe lights can all be adjusted myriad ways; and we can’t forget the very unique undulating pendant lighting at the island.

This is a photo of a kitchen done in our Harlan Shaker RTA cabinet line. It is constructed out of all real wood, with hardwood maple doors, drawers and drawer boxes, plywood box construction with a real maple veneer stained to match the cabinet front. This picture shows on the base, starting from the left a 33" Lazy Susan cabinet, a 18" 3 drawer base cabinet, a 21" Base cabinet, a 36" 2 door 2 drawer base cabinet, a 36" Sink base, a Bosch stainless steel dishwasher, and a base end panel. On the uppers, there is a 30" x 30" 2 door wall cabinet, 2 36" x 15" horizontal wall cabinets with glass doors, a 36" 2 door wall cabinet, 2 more 36" x 15" horizontal wall cabinets with glass doors, and a 24" x 30" wall cabinet. The molding on the top is our 3 1/4" Royal Crown molding. These cabinets are great for making over any kitchen and transforming it into a modern efficient space. But that doesn’t always mean starting from scratch – because when something works, it works. At TKS Design Group, we believe in intentional design, not change for the sake of change. Especially when it comes to quality kitchen cabinets. Lead designer, Jennifer, was able to make the most of what worked in this space, while elevating the aesthetic to make the kitchen feel brand new. This kitchen is an example of just that. When the homeowners purchased the home in 2016, they made some initial updates. From painting to refinishing the floors, they began the process of making this house their own. When the time came to update the kitchen, they wanted to work with what they had to elevate the space, while also adding in the design details that were missing for them. Not every space or kitchen requires starting from scratch to make new. Sometimes the layout is just right, and the cabinets are in great shape. Instead, you can prioritize the aesthetic you seek within the scope of what you already have. That is exactly what this kitchen called for. The new statement island in slate was added to make space for the microwave drawer which wasn’t a part of the original layout. The bold tone of the island adds contrast against light perimeter cabinetry painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove. A custom hood accommodates a new blower for an upgraded cooking experience. Quartz countertops paired with a marble backsplash pull everything together. Elevated plumbing fixtures in a polished nickel finish add a subtle sheen and loads of elegance. This client cared a lot about the details of the design, but especially the light fixtures. When we understand what matters to our client, we can prioritize it as a part of our design and process.

By annexing an unused portion of the original garage into the kitchen, we were able to open up the room considerably, improve the home's energy efficiency, and also introduce loads of natural light to the first floor. In particular, we replaced a very old boiler and water heater, and subsequently removed the chimney that originally served them. This allowed us to then install gable windows in the old garage area, which can be seen here above the double stoves.

The modern kitchen is not so easy to define these days. I can think of a variety of kitchen themes which could have the word or concept "modern" attached to it: the new traditional, modern/rustic, eco-modern, vintage modern, minimalism, even mainstream modern. Modern cannot be pigeon-holed into one particular aesthetic. Not like it used to be. Not now. This is my very own kitchen created in our 1970's era Post and beam…

This beautiful little kitchen project sold for $26,000. They had Lowe’s do all the work which included: In-stock tile flooring, Schuler Rustic Maple Shaker Style cabinets and paneling, Sensa granite counter-top, a Kohler sink, Delta faucet, Bosch dishwasher, Travertine tile backsplash, and LED under-cabinet lighting. LAB A FRAME WITH A TECHNOLOGICAL CORE. Prominent and refined model with clean lines and large volumes expressing the lightness of the glass fronts and the strength of the aluminum frame supporting them. Design for better ergonomics, concentrating the washing and cooking areas in the central island to make kitchen chores easier. The simplicity of solids, emphasized by tall units doors and island bases with groove, does not contrast with the various translucent materials that introduce countless and rigorous reflections. A real laboratory where different materials and finishes are mixed with extreme knowledge: the right columns are model Lab matt glass Nero traffico finish, the left columns are model Bluna wood bilaminate Noce miele finish, while the island is model Bluna tech Alluminio brunito finish with the new Emme groove which gives a characteristic lightness to the 12 mm thick gres worktop Nero greco finish.

I love a client that has my taste in décor. Making this client a dream to work with. First things started with the kitchen layout which was horrendous, then gradually we worked our way though to baths rooms. After that the flooring and paint colors gave this coastal wonder the shine it deserves.

The bathroom features custom-sized Conestoga Cuzco Oro 633 panels, lending a rich and inviting tone to the cabinetry. It includes a sophisticated enclosure for a Bosch washer and dryer, complete with Sugatsune pocket doors, which optimize space without sacrificing style. The hardware throughout is finished in a luxurious gold tone, tying together the various elements with a cohesive and elegant aesthetic. Practical additions such as removable toe kicks and leveling legs ensure easy maintenance and adjustment.

With a structural beam replacing the old load-bearing wall, this kitchen looks and feels much bigger than really is. Creative cabinetry, clean lines and lots of light add to the complete makeover. Removing the wall produced enough space to install a small cabinet between the stove and the refrigerator, which had been side by side. The countertops are Frosty Carrina Caesarstone. Flooring is Armstrong Night Owl luxury vinyl tile. The custom recessed panel cabinets are finished in Acrylic Diamond Frost. Beadboard along the end panel, peninsula and open shelf backs imparts a casual touch. The white Fireclay Apron Sink is paired with a Rohl bridge faucet and side spray. The homeowners love to cook, deciding to install a pot-filler faucet for chef approved functionality. Stainless steel appliances support the desire to modernize the space. The homeowners gained space and comfort replacing a radiator with Uponor Aquapex Joist Track Radiant in-floor heat. They also appreciate the new electrical sub-panel and wiring for the Bosch induction range, appliance circuits and lighting.

David Woo Designs With the kitchen open to the family room, the peninsula provided an opportunity to create dual purpose cabinets. On the family room side there is open shelving for photo albums and books. The shelf is flanked by symmetrical cupboards. On the right the cupboard is only 12" deep where as the left side cupboard is 3ft deep eliminating the need for a corner cupboard on the kitchen side. While kitchen space is lost, the family room gains a very large cupboard for big items like board games. The kitchen isn't lacking in cupboard space though and already has a corner cabinet with lazy susan on the other side. The peninsula is 3ft wide with standard 24" cabinets on the kitchen side. This is a huge counter surface over 7ft long which is great as a buffet or for rolling out pastry. Over head rail lighting ensures this work area is well lit.
