Townhouse renovation in Brooklyn: We redesigned the rear end of the house as an expanded family kitchen with a back door to the deck. We also added a new connection from the entrance hall to the kitchen and fit a small powder room under the stairs. The old windows and doors were replaced with new, larger ones, and the entire kitchen was gutted and refitted with new cabinetry and a banquette dining area. Arched valances above the window and on the island bookshelf, along with the curved custom metal hood above the stainless steel range, contrast nicely with the overall linear design of the space. The leaded glass cabinet doors not only create a spot to display the homeowner’s favorite glassware, but visually it helps prevent the white cabinets from being overbearing. By installing recessed can lights uniformly throughout the space instead of decorative pendants above the island, the kitchen appears more open and spacious.

This breathtaking kitchen was designed for entertaining. The large kitchen island is teak and features a Brittanicca Cambria countertop with a flawless waterfall edge. The 48" gas wolf range is practically a work of art framed by a modern stainless steel range hood and by the quartz panels that meld seamlessly with the wood paneling through out the great room. The modern white cabinets are punctuated with the use of built-in custom gold hardware. The vaulted ceilings create an airy and bright space which is complimented by the use of glass pendants above the bar. The gray porcelain tile flooring used through out the home flows outside to the lanai and entry to punctuate the indoor outdoor design.

Beginning this full home remodel in the kitchen, we added a cozy banquette, built-in custom cabinets, and a PentalQuartz Super White countertop for a contemporary vibe. The kitchen’s central feature is an inset bar in rich macassar ebony and Flavor Paper’s Monaco gold foil wallpaper that was formerly a fireplace.

This white waterfall countertop edge adds to the modern feel of this island design! Carrying the quartz up the sink and stove wall allowed for the perfect backdrop for the brass and wood open shelving.

Our clients are seasoned home renovators. Their Malibu oceanside property was the second project JRP had undertaken for them. After years of renting and the age of the home, it was becoming prevalent the waterfront beach house, needed a facelift. Our clients expressed their desire for a clean and contemporary aesthetic with the need for more functionality. After a thorough design process, a new spatial plan was essential to meet the couple’s request. This included developing a larger master suite, a grander kitchen with seating at an island, natural light, and a warm, comfortable feel to blend with the coastal setting. Demolition revealed an unfortunate surprise on the second level of the home: Settlement and subpar construction had allowed the hillside to slide and cover structural framing members causing dangerous living conditions. Our design team was now faced with the challenge of creating a fix for the sagging hillside. After thorough evaluation of site conditions and careful planning, a new 10’ high retaining wall was contrived to be strategically placed into the hillside to prevent any future movements. With the wall design and build completed — additional square footage allowed for a new laundry room, a walk-in closet at the master suite. Once small and tucked away, the kitchen now boasts a golden warmth of natural maple cabinetry complimented by a striking center island complete with white quartz countertops and stunning waterfall edge details. The open floor plan encourages entertaining with an organic flow between the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. New skylights flood the space with natural light, creating a tranquil seaside ambiance. New custom maple flooring and ceiling paneling finish out the first floor. Downstairs, the ocean facing Master Suite is luminous with breathtaking views and an enviable bathroom oasis. The master bath is modern and serene, woodgrain tile flooring and stunning onyx mosaic tile channel the golden sandy Malibu beaches. The minimalist bathroom includes a generous walk-in closet, his & her sinks, a spacious steam shower, and a luxurious soaking tub. Defined by an airy and spacious floor plan, clean lines, natural light, and endless ocean views, this home is the perfect rendition of a contemporary coastal sanctuary. Before we remodeled this space, the kitchen cabinetry had a deep-dark stain, standard builder finishes, and could use a little makeover. Overall, the space lacked excitement, finesse, and good layout. So, in order to maximize the space to its full potential, we incorporated a new kitchen island which would give the space more storage, counter space, and we could include a wine unit! Win-win! Plus, the existing cabinetry on the perimeter was in great condition, so we could refinish those and have a little more fun with the other finishes of the space. Want to see what we did? Take a look below! Cabinetry As mentioned above, the cabinetry on the perimeter was refinished with white paint. The new island we installed cabinetry from WWWoods Shiloh, with a Heritage door style, and a finish of Arctic paint. Countertops The countertops feature a beautiful 3 cm Caesarstone Quartz in Symphony Grey. We also incorporated a waterfall on the edge, adding that extra element of design. Backsplash From the Glazzio Gemstone Series, we installed a Glacier Onyx 3” x 12” as the main backsplash tile and on the backside of the island. As a picture frame over the sink, we installed a Daltile Contempo White Polished marble pencil rail, with a Daltile Carrara White 1”x random marble Mosaic inside the frame. Fixtures From Blanco we have installed a Quatrus R0 Super Single Bowl sink, and a BLANCOCULINA semiprofessional kitchen faucet in satin nickel. The hardware cabinetry is the It Pull in Modern Bronze from Atlas. Flooring The new flooring is a hardwood oak, that’s been sanded and finished.

Cabico Elmwood cabinetry with the “Bregenz” doorstyle in “Pure White,” with satin nickel “Sutton” pulls from Hardware Resources, give a modern, fresh feel to the Kitchen. The countertop-to-ceiling backsplash and stunning waterfall-edge island are Silestone “Calacatta Gold” engineered quartz. The herringbone floor design comprises Porcelanosa “Krono Grey” porcelain tile. Stools - client’s own.

This large dining area in the eat-in kitchen area allows for flexible entertaining. Custom cabinets were installed in the kitchen. Features include a breakfast counter, sprayed conversion lacquer coating and Caesar Stone counter tops with a waterfall edge.
