Tay-ky Developments

We completed a basement renovation with Colin and Bonnie. Everything was well planned and went off without a hitch. They listen to what we wanted and made it all work. Thanks for making our basement useable and the way we wanted.

I did a whole home reno of my two bedroom 1 1/2 story home, floorboards to studs, basement to attic. The design help totally achieved my wishes and ideas while adding loads of practical advice. The construction phase was really good. There were a few minor errors, which were fixed without question or time wasting. There were all the usual surprises, to the tune of nearly $15,000 yet Colin was able to find sufficient savings and room in his budget to make the final cost under 3% over, while maintaining the overall vision He took on additional challenges cheerfully, AND he finished on time. There is nothing more I could have asked for: on time, effectively under budget, and willing, kind and helpful contractors and sub-trades. The after-care of those things which have come up has been terrific too.

Very satisfied with this basement development. Had an undeveloped basement (house built 2014). I consulted with several vendors before choosing Tay-ky and did LOTS of research. Was referred to Tay-ky via a positive referral from a friend. Positive experience with Colin, Brenden, and the sub-contractors. Tay-ky was also competitive with price (in fact the most competitive) and still managed to create a high-quality space that I'm proud of. What: I wanted to create an open home theater and dance rehearsal space. Process with Colin and Bonnie went smoothly, required some clarifications (I am very detailed). Colin took the time to plan creation of the space and how to frame the walls (there was low ceiling plumbing that needed a workaround). Had to put up 2 walls to separate the space from: 1) the furnace and back storage room 2) the water meter reader room. As I am a dancer, Colin arranged the installation of a mirror on one wall so that I can use it as a rehearsal space. I asked for an entertainment cabinet as I don't want to build one on my own. I have a home theater projector that I wanted to put on the ceiling, but I didn't want it to be a permanent solution (which is what a regular ceiling mount is), so Colin created a projector tray hung from the ceiling where I can put my projector on, but also can remove it and take it elsewhere when I want to. Floor is Winchester Plywood Blue Pine. Work was done on time as scheduled (though I wasn't in any rush). I definitely recommend Tay-ky Developments for any such work. The work proceeded without any hiccups and I love my new basement! Helpful Note: They accept MasterCard however charge a 2% "convenience" fee. I get 1.5% cashback when I use my credit card and was planning to use this to help finance. But had to go with cheque. I understand why such a fee is charged (at least Bonnie tried to explain to me). Helpful Note: Invoices come from Bonnie, who isn't at the house meetings (just Colin), so sometimes information/costs get incorrectly translated to the invoice. Was able to clarify with Bonnie and Colin when this happened, and have the invoice corrected without any issues.

We are very pleased with our completed kitchen renovation. It was great to have all the personal assistance in choosing flooring, cabinets, counter tops, back splash etc. Bonnie knew what I wanted before I even knew. They were very pleasant to deal with and met deadlines. It's great to know that if we have any concerns, they will be out to fix them as soon as possible for two years.

Bonnie & Colin (Tay-Ky) recently completed a gorgeous addition to our bungalow in Charleswood (NW Calgary). We interviewed 4 contractors at the start of this project - we could sense right away that Bonnie and Colin really had a passion for what they do, and were sincerely engaged in their customers' projects. They took the time to really understand what it is we wanted to achieve, and helped us through the details to prevent us from making changes we would have regretted. We are absolutely thrilled with the finished product and with the level of client care and attention we received from both Bonnie and Colin. They did a great job keeping us informed throughout the process, and made sure that we were 100% satisfied as each stage of the job progressed. Colin's mantra of "I'm not happy until you're happy" is not just a slogan - he really means it. We would not hesitate to hire them again for any future renovation projects.

They provided us with considerate advice at the planning stage and were very available throughout the job. Our kitchen renovation was significant for us and with every step we felt confident with our decision.

We contracted the basement finishing project to Tayky development. Our experience with Tayky was perfectly satisfied from quotation, estimation to completion. The work was carried out before the schedule. Collin and Bonnie has provided update at very regular interval of progress and inform us in advance about their plan. We hired Tay-ky to design and develop our basement. My wife and I had specific requirements; we wanted quality workmanship above all else, we wanted a bar area, rec. area to hang in, bedroom with a large closet, bathroom with a full shower, linen closet, home theatre room, art studio and a storage room. We’d like to submit this review in regards to our appreciation of the work that Tayky completed on our new basement development. We’ve been enjoying it for a few months now and are really happy with it. The quality of craftsmanship really came through and shows in the finished product. We appreciate that Tayky was able to work with our custom designs and match finishes to the remainder of the house. Many of the previous contractors we were in discussion with were fixed on offering a standard package of options rather than take the time to price out all of the exact finishings to remain consistent throughout our house. We were especially pleased with how the exercise room came out with 6ft wrap around mirrors in order to emphasize on space as well as the custom cabinetry and lighting on our bar to display our wine and scotch collection. We awarded our full basement development project to Colin and Bonnie after performing a full competitive bid on the project. Pricing was competitive but more importantly he had strong references and when we walked through the job they listened to our asks, had excellent suggestions to improve upon our design and ideas. They were flexible in the planning stage as we went through several different iterations of the drawings. The different trades that Tay-ky brought in were excellent and very accommodating to our toddlers nap schedule. Colin was very transparent on communicating any concerns or decisions that came up along the way. The job went very smooth and he exceeded our time frame of 90 days by 45 days for a start to finish of 55 days with complete sign off. The contract we signed with him was detailed by line item and when order changes or cost savings came up the contract was updated to reflect the changes. This transparency was much appreciated and demonstrated how diligent and honest Colin is with his invoicing. We are very happy with the quality of service and the final product. We would highly recommend Colin and Bonnie to anyone who is looking.

Tay-ky Developments was extremely punctual and worked in an efficient manner. Colin was in full open communication with the process of the project and honest about the pricing and didn't try and throw in any hidden costs. It was a small job but I found that he paid attention to detail and took pride in his work and the reputation of his company. He was resourceful and pleasant to deal with and took pictures as the work was being done to show me the final product and ask my opinion. He came up with helpful hints (an extra gate lock, for efficiency) and cleaned up the job as he went. Colin followed up after the work was done to make sure that I was still satisfied and assured me that I could call if I needed him to adjust or mend anything on the job.

Tay-ky completed our kitchen demolition and helped with installation of new countertops and a sink and related work on a kitchen project. The work was completed on time and within budget, Colin and his crew were usually on time or early on days they were supposed to come and they did a great job with clean up afterwards. They even came on weekends. Colin gave us some very good ideas that have worked in his experience and which have been great from our perspective (the push button for the garbage disposal). We have another project pending this year and we fully intend to use Tay-ky for this one as well.
