wood mgmt furniture + interior spaces

We hired Steffan Elzinga of Wood Mgmt in May of 2021. We have an older home in West Toronto. The scope of work was to remove all of the old wood soffits, cedar shingles and replace them with new wood/cedar to be painted. We also had a wood porch which needed to have all the old wood trim, flooring/ceiling removed and replaced. The project was supposed to take 6 weeks (approx $50 thousand). It went on for 6 months and counting. We made a few changes to the front facade adding a bit more detail so we understood that the project would take a littlelonger to complete but did not anticipate all the troubles to come. Steffan did not budget our project efficiently; he ran out of money to complete our job even though we made the awful mistake of giving him ALL but $1,300 to complete the project. He said he needed the money to purchase the porch materials. He was dishonest with us for months saying that the material for our porch was on backorder; however when I called the company that he supposedly ordered the material from, I discovered he actually never even placed that order. Out of desperation I purchased the materials myself (an extra $9000.00) so that he could finish that part of the job since he told us he now ran out of money. The front facade of our house was bubbling after he installed "outdoor MDF", he was supposed to fix this, as we paid extra for this feature and he just never came back. It has now been over a year. He kept on promising us he would return but never did. We paid extra for premium outdoor farrow and ball paint which is already chipping off and some of the wood trim details are popping out of place. He told us his work is guaranteed for 5 years. We could not even get him to come back within one year. The only reason our porch got done months later was because I REpaid for the materials and went running around doing his "Contractor" job of sourcing a wood worker who could replicate the balusters. He left our porch in a demolished, unsafe state for MONTHS. His excuse was " I am a small business". This is not how you treat homeowners that are honest and fair. When Steffan asked us for more money because something took longer to do than he expected (ie the bay window waffles) we gave it to him with no questions asked. We gave him all payments in a timely manner and treated him with courtesy and respect. He should be ashamed of the way he handled our job. He has our house showcased on his instagram page under "Victorian Style" , he does not deserve to keep that on there as the job he did is now falling apart. He owes us money for paying for the porch materials that I had already given him a cheque for. I am happy to speak to anyone about my experience. DO NOT hire this company. Even if you are one of the lucky ones that he finishes the job for, if something goes wrong would he come back to fix it. For us it was just empty promises and then a disappearing act. I would give zero stars if I could for his dishonesty.

Wood MGMT and Steffan are the top of the pop. Do yourselves a favor and hire this company. My wife and I hired Steffan to install exterior insulation and Maibec siding on our addition. The addition was poorly insulated and looked like total shit. Steffan helped us pick the insulation and siding and handled all the orders and pickup. He and his right-hand-man AJ were on the job for 3 weeks and my wife and I couldn't be happier with the final product. You hear these horror stories all the time about shitty contractors going over-time, over-budget and producing a sub-par products. Well, not with Wood MGMT. Steffan is the nicest guy in the world and exceptionally skilled and knowledgeable. He cares about the things he builds and wants the work done right. AJ is also super nice and very skilled. We have more projects planned for the new year and hope Wood MGMT will be able to do the work.

Wood mgmt offers a refined & contemporary approach to their projects. They helped make our reno seamless and offered many solutions throughout the creative process. Would highly recommend for those looking for great design, quality and consistency!

Steffan did an amazing job with his carpentry work on our basement built in. Very precise work and great attention to detail. He also helped with the design of the project. He worked for hours on end to meet our deadline. He thoroughly enjoys what he does and it shows in his craftsmanship.

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt it was necessary in this case. Steffan and Wood Management were a pleasure to work with. I hired Steffan to do a small closet and I was so happy with it that I rehired him and his team for a an office instalment and my walk-in closet. All of the custom designs were beyond my expectations. Everyone was so friendly (Bonus points for keeping my dogs company while I had to slip out to the office!) Thank you again!
