The idea of aging in place is not necessarily related to wheelchair use. I was actually referring to raising the oven, which is below the microwave here, because some older clients don't like to bend down almost to the floor to remove things from the oven. Of course, for wheelchair access both the microwave and oven would have to move here. We have found that different clients take design for "aging in place" to different lengths (and not strictly per ADA requirements which is indeed concerned with wheelchair use among other things) - many simply want more convenient access for an ambulatory person who might not have as large a range of motion anymore, while some might seek wheelchair accessibility as you mention (for example, we have designed walk/roll-in showers for wheelchair use or severely limited walking ability). I hope this helps clarify things.
