We have worked with John Hershey since 1995 on multiple projects, John is one of the most detailed Architects we have worked with in the last 25 years of business. John takes extra steps with his Architectural drawings and shows more details than most of the other Architects we have worked with. Any builder who reads blueprints knows the more details there are on the drawings the less questions / problems arise and the projects are completed more accurately, John has always been available throughout the projects should any questions arise and takes every effort to satisfy any questions or issues that might come up. We have had a fantastic experience working with John Hershey. In 1999 we bought an old farmhouse on an attractive property in Long Grove, Illinois. After an extensive feasibility review that John assisted us with where we analyzed the pros and cons of remodeling vs. new construction, in 2003 we demolished our existing house and built and moved into a wonderful, family-oriented, prairie-style home. In 2004 when our home was completed, for a variety of reasons we chose to not to finish our basement. In 2009 we finished our basement and once again John did an excellent job in understanding our needs and offered ideas that we had not even considered. Throughout our nearly 10 year working relationship, John has been imaginative, resourceful, and responsive to problems or suggestions and very patient with us as first time home builders. Many friends warned us that designing and building a house would be extremely stressful. To the contrary - working with John was a truly joyful journey. John made what could have been a frustrating experience into one which was both pleasant and productive. John captured our vision of a warm, welcoming, prairie-style home. His talent and flawless execution resulted in a home that not only exceeded our expectations but one that has a balance of functionality and casual elegance. It was a pleasure to work with John. He presented a clear plan up front that explained all of the associated costs and timelines. John's clear understanding of our town's ordinance rules made for clean process from start to finish. I have worked with J. Hershey for over 15 years on numerous projects as a cabinetry designer as well as hired them for the design of my personal residence. Several years ago I decided to add onto my home. As a contractor I had many relationships with Architects to pick from. Yet I felt no one was "getting" me and what I wanted. I met John, and instantly I knew he would be perfect to create what I envisioned. As I walk my home, there is nothing of his design that I would change. He perfectly captured what I could not express myself on paper. That worked so well, I hired John and his team to design and build a home from ground up that I sold as a spec home.
