We hired Empire Kitchen and Bath to reno our kitchen over a 4 month period while we were out of the country which involved removing all existing cabinetry and installing all new appliances. They also upgraded our family area fireplace and cabinets and also installed new cabinets in the MB. We were kept appraised by email, with weekly updates and accompanying pictures. The work proceeded smoothly, with minimal issues and the few that arose were handled promptly and very much to our satisfaction. Empire kitchen staff were responsive, engaged, knowledgeable and most importantly, very available both on the phone and via email and being away from the property the forgoing provided us considerable comfort that things were managed to our satisfaction. They also armed and disarmed the residential alarm system daily, collected our stacked our mail . They even too the time to re-instate the furniture and our kitchen items (cutlery, crockery and dishware and spices) so that when we returned home late on a Friday night, we were pleasantly surprised that we were returning to a home that was ready for us to step into with no additional work. What was also apparent from the weekly pictures was that housekeeping was excellent and they cleaned as they went which is always the sign of a disciplined and well organized crew. Ultimately the work was completed on schedule and on budget - we have out dream kitchen, and the fact that we were away from home and not directly monitoring the work made no difference! Steve's attention to detail, professionalism, and work ethic set him apart. He was happy to accommodate and revise our plans numerous times over many weeks (and on the occasional weekend which seems rare in this day and age). He was able to provide expert opinions where my wife and I struggled to see the best option and creative solutions to problems we weren't even aware of (like calculating glass exposure). If you need drawings done professionally, promptly and priced very fairly, Steve is your guy!

We began working with Spencer in early 2024 on a small lower level bathroom demo and rebuild. The fact that Spencer provides both design and build services was something that played heavily in our decision to contract Haven Works. We highly recommend this type of service; and of course Spencer and Haven Works specifically. Through the design phase Spencer brought our vision to life via software based renderings, which greatly helped us visualize the space in different configurations, materials, and finishes; as well as through the delivery of material samples to our home which helped us make size, colour, and texture decisions within the project environment rather than in stores and warehouses. The demo was quick and efficient with Spencer working alongside his right-hand man Jesse; who was an absolute pleasure to have in our home. Through the entirety of the build phase Spencer, Jesse, and all of Spencer's sub-contractors were fantastic. We greatly appreciated everyone's punctuality, work ethic, attention to detail, and "no-shortcuts allowed" professionalism. We are now just over a year past completion of this project and we still could not be happier with the results. We have received so many compliments on the overall appearance, thoughtful layout, and finishes in the bathroom. We used this project to help us determine how to approach renovation of our master ensuite and upper level bathrooms, and given these results and our overall experiences throughout this project, we are very much looking forward to starting these next projects, and eventual kitchen renovation as well, all under the guidance of Spencer and team. We’ve been working on sketches and concepts for our dream home for nearly 3 decades and choosing the right designer to bring these thoughts to reality was a big step for us. We had admired several examples of Suzanne Devonshire-Baker’s work in our neighbourhood before hiring her to design a new home for us following the Calgary flood of 2013. Although we had always wished to build a home, the circumstances that we found ourselves in – an old home that had to be demolished because of the flood – did not allow for a long planning and design process. Suzanne was very aware of these circumstances and from the outset suggested and provided sources for us to look at in order to get the design process moving. At a high level, Suzanne is an exceptionally organized, informed and skilled architect who is most willing to work collaboratively. Throughout the process Suzanne provided drawings to capture our ideas and, just as importantly, was able to discard any conceptual drawings that did not fit our ‘vision’. She is very intuitive and was able to interpret our ‘wish list’ and incorporate these elements into the design. Equally important, she was candid about when a particular idea we had wouldn’t actually work in either the space or the design of the house. Where we were unsure, she always suggested and welcomed outside source ideas – books/magazines/pictures – and on several occasions arranged for us to go into a house in progress or a completed project in order to see firsthand a particular design element. Once the building actually began, Suzanne was very available and would more often than not be a part of our weekly onsite building meetings. Her attention to architectural detail is impressive and on several occasions she would step in on our behalf to ensure that whatever building detail was in question was being handled properly. We also appreciated that Suzanne was mindful of budget and where possible, offered creative and less expensive alternatives. .Suzanne has a wonderful sense of space and design and because of this the end result is a home that we love and feel very comfortable in. We feel very fortunate to have had Suzanne as our architect.
