Is the paint used for the wall around the tub waterproof?

I have a similar design in mind and would like to use paint instead of tiles for the wall around the tub (the tub will be clad in travertine). Thanks and well done!

    the wall above the tub is painted (not a water proof paint) the wall below the tub is limestone.

    I am unsure whether to use paint on the wall around the tub because paint may lead to mildew building up and there will also be the need to quickly clean any water splashes from the wall. Will try to use a waterproof paint to do the job. Thanks!
