Hi everyone, I'm having a dilemma with my oak window trim. I moved into a '90s townhouse and renovated the kitchen, bathrooms, etc. I painted the honey oak baseboard and door frames in ivory throughout, but kept all of the windows, window casings, and trim in the oak. I did that because the windows themselves are wood and are in good shape. Even more importantly, I quite like the look of the big wood windows in my living room. (you can see the windows in the view from the dining room, attached) Now for the dilemma. I did a white and marble kitchen, which I quite enjoy, but I am still on the fence about the oak window trim in here. I have a clean-lined, soft modern aesthetic and enjoy finding a harmony between warm and cool tones, so I choose burnished bronze hardware from Lee Valley and a vintage teak kitchen set to try to bridge the two but I'm still not certain. So the question - should I just try to incorporate window dressings (they have to change anyway) and/or rugs and other accessories to make these windows work, or should I paint them out? If I do paint them out, how do people feel about mismatched window trims in a house? (I've never been a fan of that, but perhaps its the way to go.) Finally, the (yes, black) dining room is right off of the kitchen, and I would like to incorporate some of the black touches into the kitchen space. Any thoughts from the crowd re: black window trim, or black accessories? All suggestions welcome.
