It needs a driveway or pathways leading up to the steps for starters. Right now it looks like a little house in the middle of a field. that may be what's giving it the mobile home feeling.

A driveway will give the home a grander feel. The wooden porch has the look of a mobile home porch.

It needs landscaping as well.

Are you looking for the $100 solution, or are you willing to spend 5 or 10 thousand?

The grass is getting worn out from people ( ie paperboy) repeatedly walking across it.. Making a designated walkway will discourage the grass being used.

for right now no we cant spend tons of money but gradually and in the future yes

thank you all for your ideas. first things first is to paint porches white and paint door red and either take off shutters completely and add trim or to paint shutters dark blue

Consider not painting the porches white, especially if wood is pressure treated. It will be an ongoing maintenance issue. I'd stain instead.

Also, try to make a plan of what you want to do over the longer term, and consider it when starting a new project.

The house could use a covered porch. By extending the gable and increasing the size of the existing deck, this will not cost too much.

The windows are all the same height, and mostly the same size. Changing some as appropriate for the room would help.

Windows need trim.

Siding is all the same, and all white -- not very interesting. You could replace the siding between the left 2 windows with something different, shingles or board and batten, for example. Paint this a different color.

Remove the shutters.

Is there a garage? No garage, or a garage that does not look like it belongs with the house is another sigh of a mobile home.

Landscaping. Again, make a plan and start adding plants slowly. Trees first.

There needs to be some sort of entry patio and defined garden areas. Also without any trees the site is not grounded. You need to talk to a landscape designer in your area so you can get a long range plan.

Hi Melissaw13, I use Corel Paintshop pro to modify pictures, there are many programs out there that will do the same thing. I like to take pictures of my rooms and then use my photo program to change things and see how it looks.

I hear you on the budget. I completely agree with ppf, make a master plan then decide what to tackle 1st wave, 2nd 3rd. That way you wont have to undo something down the road. I built a home once and we did not have a master plan for the build, just a rough idea for the logistics, needless to say we moved piles of materials more than once because of it.

Also please do not paint the porches! Take it from someone who did use paint on an exposed wood deck. OMG talk about paint dandruff maintenance nightmare forever. Just...NO. Stain is a much better option. Or even better, cover the exposed deck and the maintenance goes way down.

We plan on staining the porches just painting the railings. Right now we are trying to decide. What color the door and shutters need to be painted. The house has to stay white so we are just trying to figure out a color scheme that works with the red/brown roof

Suggest not paint the railings because of ongoing maintenance.

a proper driveway, a walkway to the front door, an outdoor living space/patio and some landscaping and planting a few trees is all you need. it's a cute house.

i agree that a proper driveway would make the home look like a new place. I would also suggest painting the railings the same color as the house to tie it all together. maybe some garden maintenance might help as well.

Def looking better! :). The last pic is dark...did you get some grass and plants to grow? I've had that "soil" before and it's incredibly difficult to grow without constant amendment and water. I resorted to raised beds and containers.

I like how you used pavers...maybe need a few more rows? For a main entrance, there should be enough hard scape that walking just flows...no thoughts of hopscotch in the walkers mind...are yours close enough already? I put pebbles between mine, which were only about 2-3 inches apart.

With that weird angle of steps off the "front" door....can you plant two flowering bushes or trees? Something that stays small...crape myrtles, ligustrum, etc? I personally love things to eat or things that smell great: container citrus, loquat, persimmons(messy and brings critters), fig bushes or trees, tea olive, gardenia, jasmine, roses.
