I like your pillows;) I think a cream sofa would be good. BUT... looking at your picture what I find I do not like is the lamps, and the fact that every thing is so matchy matchy. Same end tables, same lamps, same pictures on each side table, same star fish on each side of the coffee table, same star coaster on each side table... makes it less interesting;) I mean well with my comments, I just cut to the chase;))

I will be getting new lamps. I am looking at aqua recycled glass lamps to bring in more color. I have no problem with your suggestions, that is why I posted here. What do you think I should change?

I'm wondering if the coffee tables are new? If they are, this will probably sound like a hideous suggestion, but I'm wondering about painting the end tables or, better yet, changing out one of them for a painted piece that isn't part of the set?

I'm also not sure if you are wanting to replace the existing sofa, or buy a second sofa to go with this one?

I would put the two starfish together by the centerpiece lay them slightly atop each other to look casual not placed. I would remove at least one of the photo's and both of the star coasters (bring them out when needed)

I would consider a more longer rectangular piece of art over the sofa . Is there another wall to put the current painting on?

Are the end tables square or rectangular? For some reason they look to be turned the wrong way (could be just me though). Are you attached to the picture above the sofa? Love the wall color but the picture seems to just disappear. Great choices on pillows. Agree that you should change the lamps. Can you post pictures of the other side of the room?

I'd swap your coffee table for an ottoman or a table with distressed wood. Check overstock. They have a bunch of options.

Hi Kathy, If you are replacing the existing sofa, then yes, I would stick with a cream or natural white color to keep with the coastal vibe. A slipcovered sofa would be perfect.

And, you will probably find that two chairs is more flexible than a loveseat. You could maybe get the arm chairs in a ticking or a wide stripe fabric.

I wonder if you should keep the coffee table and replace the end tables. The end tables do not have to match either - just make sure they are about the same height. One end table could be round, and the other square. Or, one wood and the other metal. Or maybe a set of nesting tables in one side - this way, you can move the smaller table(s) around to where it is needed if you get arm chairs.

I would first get the sofa and chairs, then post again and see what we've got.

I really love the white distressed look but this room connects to the dining room and that table is medium oak along with a curio. Too much to refinish all the furniture but I will look at end tables. This is the lamp I have picked out so far. what do you think?

I love the Camelia Court room and would love that in my living room. I love my room color and pillows. I just need to figure out the tables. I could try to strip them and paint them white, distressed? Will it be too matchy?

Love the lamps! You're right to consider the adjoining room. If you can, decide between the end tables or coffee table (not both). I mix wood finishes all the time but you need to balance the finishes throughout the room. Ex. a distressed wood coffee table would look odd in the present room. I'm not a fan of seagrass in general but it could work. It's substantial without being heavy. I'd probably balance a table/ottoman like this with a black floor lamp base or curtain rod.

Good morning, Kathy, The Camelia Court room is a beautiful room! Are you wanting to go into the indigos, as this room does? Because you can certainly mix lighter and darker blues - just wondering if this is for sure what you are after.

I like the lamp you posted, but would hold off on that purchase until you can really see the total look in your vision for this room. To me, that lamp is casual and beachy, whereas the Ca Elia Court room has a more formal (just a bit), Hamptons kind of a vibe.

If you study the Camelia Court room, you see the floor lamp and sconces are in an oil-rubbed bronze finish, and are quite classic. What's nice about this is that you will have the lamps forever - they will adapt to almost any new look you come up with. The blue glass lamps will always say "cottage" or "beach", so you will want to be sure you're going to love this look for a long time!

It would be nice to see a pic or two of the DR, and even the kitchen, for a better sense of the whole home. I don't see a problem with distressed white for one coffee table, and having an oak DR table nearby. Maybe you can slipcover a couple of the DR chairs to make it more casual.

Not sure what's in your curio, but could it be painted a spa blue, or white maybe, to continue the coastal vibe in both rooms?

I still feel that before the tables, before the lamps, and before the art,the new sofa and chairs should come next. Then we build from there.

In many coastal pictures I've seen, a cream sofa with cream walls doesn't fit well. Take this picture for example. Try to make the space pop with different blues but try not to clash to bad. If it were me, I'd change the lamps and either change the Cousy color or wall color. I think a blue wall color would be nice.

Also, a cute coastal rug would be nice here to.

Kathy, Your White Sand walls are gorgeous - don't change them! As long as you go with a lighter color than Driftwood for the sofa, you will be fine.

So, putting together an early possibility here, what if....what if.....you use the PB Comfort slipcovered sofa in Cream, the PB Comfort slipcovered arm chairs in the Julian ticking stripe, your blue pillows, and maybe paint the coffee table in something like Ben Moore's Oyster Shell (a light gray/blue/green)? It would be something like this - see pics below:

Accessories still to be determined. You would want a few hits of black in here, though, to ground these very light colors.

All of the wood furniture is just too dark to pull off much of a coastal look. Start by deciding which you'll keep - coffee table or end tables - then remove the leaded glass from the keeper and insert some sea glass panels, painting the table in your favorite of the sea glass colors. Pick another of the sea glass colors and paint your display cabinet. Distress your pedestal dining table and the sideboard around the corner. Move it and the art above it to the dining room wall. Replace all the chairs with some wicker or sea grass ones. Add a beachy chandelier over the table. Where the sideboard was, hang the other two pieces of art that appear to be the same size. Hang vertically with one frame's width between them and that center point 5' above the floor. Use this handy chart to help you pick out properly sized end tables and lamps - lamps can match, tables shouldn't.

Looking at the pics of your DR, I'm wondering if the wooden chairs from the set could be painted in a blue/grey? Maybe leave the coffee table a dark color.

Is the picture in the dining room the same size as the one above the couch? If so, I would group them together in either the living room or dining room and then get a painting or mirror for the other room.

You may want to consider painting or staining your frame over the sofa.

Hi. The dark wood is more of an island or southern look. For inspiration Ralph Lauren does nice things with dark wood & light upholstery. Would put a sisal rug over carpet to get this look going. Ceramic lamps. Also picture over fireplace could be wider. It's pretty, so consider a couple of mirrors or other pieces of art with what you have-- or possibly plates in blue and white on either side of what you have. For coastal look, paint the tables cream, and get lamps with fatter bases. Maybe put an Elizabeth Eakins rug over the carpet to anchor the seating group.

Rug size: small enough to allow at least 2 ft for adjacent pathways, large enough to have at least the front legs of sofas and chairs on the rug.

For a more "anchored" appearance I like the rug to slip under the first 1/3 of the sofa and extend past it by 10-15" on each side. With just the front feet on a rug it looks skimpy and appears to be an afterthought, IMO. Use painter's tape to tape out some sizes and when you find the one you like visually, go for it, or the next one up in size, rather than going down. My clients and I have always been pleased with the selection and service at homedecorators.com

I don't know your room dimension but I'm guessing you don't need more than an 8x10 or 6x9 rug.
