where can i find the material for the roof?

Abarrera, you should be able to find this at a building supply store, ask for double wall polycarbonate panels. It comes in a few colors and thicknesses; if the store does not carry it in stock they should be able to order it for you.

whats the average cost on a sheet of the polycarbonate and are there any climates that it wouldnt work in? Thinking of using it in Maine where the winters can be harsh.

How hard would this be to clean or keep clean? (especially bird droppings)

In the fall when there are a lot of leaves I will clean it off with a push broom from the top. The panels have a bronze tint to them so that small amounts of leaves seem to collect in interesting patterns seen from below, so we have not been bothered by them. Bird droppings have not been a problem, the steeper the slope the easier it is for the rains to keep it clean.

Hi Westmerch, This roof faces north so it is never in the sun. It was designed to let as much light as possible into this back yard area. If it had faced into the sun we would have probably used a more tinted panel. Being as open as it is, it would probably not get too hot, and would be a pleasant place to be under in Sunny weather.
