I would keep the cellular since they compress down so tightly you don't even see them unless you wish to use them (can you tell I have them?). They are great for privacy, heat control, etc.

But in addition to them, add some breezy white panels in a sheer light material.

Let me start out by saying your house is beautiful! Question, are you looking to use the same window treatment on all the windows you are showing?

Thanks Gina! It's my second time renovating a house and it's been a fun, learning experience! To answer your question, I would do the same on all windows. I think that would be the best thing to do.

4birds, I would go with something with a more even tone, less variegated. In fact, I would have gone with less variegated shades in the kitchen above. You have a lot of windows, and you're right to do them all the same, but I'd keep the shades subtle and let the windows and the rest of this beautiful house be the star.

Especially since this is a vacation rental you need low care. I have woven woods on my living and dining room windows (along with silk panels). I love the look, but they are easily damaged!

As a vacation rental property manager, I'd advise keeping the window treatments easy to clean and difficult to break. Cordless would be a consideration if the home will be rented by families with children. I've found that renters do like coverings on windows, even if in an isolated location where no one can see inside. If I can help as relates to mgmt., please let me know. What are your main needs in the window coverings? Are you looking for room-darkening, energy effeciency, insulation? Or are you more interested in tying the decor together? Are you interested in something that might block UV rays but still preserve your view? Well, smith+noble, it would be nice to incorporate all the needs you mention above. Right now, the cellular shades are top down and bottom up and I feel would break so easily by a renter who doesn't know how to operate them. And... One of the cords is already extremely tangled. My first priority is definitely the decor since pictures are what instantly grabs vacation renters attention. I really love the natural woven look to go with the beach theme. Just trying to figure out best color combo for window treatment that would work!

I don't have a website for my work - I'm no longer working in the decor field. I manage rentals for their owners and the decor is already done to their taste, and usually on a budget. I encourage upgrades when I can, but that's all I can do. Back when I managed the Vegas properties (before the owner foreclosed on them) I did fly out and style them but still had to work with the furnishings the owner had installed - quite a challenge. The rentals are all at VRBO if you'd like to see the current ones. Property numbers are 592789, 54098 and 113589. The PA house has just been open since June 1. The cabin is the oldest one - 15 years now, and the Shore home has been a rental for about 9 years. It is for sale, but needs to be blown out of the 80's for anyone to bite! Still rents well and people love it, so I can't complain. I'd offer to stage it but that might eat into my income! lol

I agree with decoenthsiaste keeping it simple and easy to clean would be the best thing for a rental. I would go with the bamboo. They would look great on every window and be a good contrast to the darker floors. Happy decorating and please post pics after reno it done!

4birds, have you looked in to roller shades that have a natural textured look? Roller shades come in a variety of textures and finishes, including faux natural woven and they have a cordless option to keep your renters from tangling cords and possibly ruining your treatments. The cordless option also works great for renters as it is the gold standard for window treatments for child safety.

Beautiful room! It looks like those are doors, not a double window? For doors, and a rental property, I would suggest panels vs a treatment that goes up and down. Looks like you have enough wall space at each side of the door to extend pole, so when panels are open they clear the door. It's ok to do a woven shade on the window and panels on the doors. You can also do both a woven shade and panels for the window. If you want to add a bit of whimsy, look at a bamboo pole for the panels. For functional panels I would do a zip rod vs rings (see picture) because the bamboo poles are somewhat uneven and it may be harder to slide rings than on a smooth pole. I have ordered the poles from Antique Drapery Rod Co. For fabrics look at a light color, linen weight fabric. One of my fabric vendors has polyester fabrics that look just like linen, drape beautifully, and you don't have to worry about wrinkles! You should be able to find them at a drapery fabric store or through a local decorator. Let us see the finished room :)

since this is a walk out door to backyard i would recommend string curtain. they can be done in different colors and styles .

There is nothing wrong with mixing wood tones. In fact I would recommend it to add interest.

I recently covered to 8 ft sliding doors with shades that allow light thru - however when I Ordered them from Home Depot they tried to discourage me from this idea - it works well for us - 2 4 ft shades under 1 valance -

The bummer is the valance provided by the blind company is a little cheap looking but I think I can cover it with fabric or cornice box!

I didn't like the shiny strip at the bottom of my cellulars, so I just hot glued on some trim from the fabric store. Small touches can be a big improvement.

I would always suggest a nice sheer fabric window treatment with block out blinds for the bedrooms

Sorry this is a really delayed response. I recently discovered string curtains and love the look. My only concern is durability and since they are string, do they get tangled easily? If anyone knows, that would be great! I ended up buying a long dowel from Home Depot and staining it for the curtain rod and actually found some great finds at a local Habitat for Humanity thrift store. They had wooden brackets which where untreated that I also stained (bought 4 for $5!). I left other blinds as is but I recently went by there last weekend and found these amazing never used shutters that just happened to be right size for windows! I'll post pics after I install those. But, here are some updated pics so far of my progress! Please excuse my novice photog skills with the lighting in pics. It was during our heat wave and extremely bright out when I snapped them. I hope you all like!
