We recommend you pick your granite and decide if you want it everywhere or if it requires a second color to make you happy. We find that our customers pick granite that they love from the slab selections at our suppliers and they are very happy. You may not have a slab yard (Marble yard) near you but seeing the pieces in person is a huge help.

I would stick with the same countertop for both since you are doing different color cabinets. You want something to tie them together so that the island doesn't look foreign. My kitchen is not done yet but here is a picture of what I am describing

I would agree to use the same color for the countertops. Here's a good example of a past project we did with white cabinets and a different color island

I have a busy quartz island counter with very plain counters for the rest of the kitchen.
Very happy with it. The island is the feature of the kitchen.

I always prefer when the granite is the center piece of the kitchen. Since each piece is unique and no two pieces are exactly the same you will literally be the only person with that kitchen. Here are some ideas that might help.

For the island top, Maybe a marble look quartz stone(white color with grey lines in it) is a nice choice....

Diff color island and countertop as a focal !! Something pretty.. Plain for the counters

Definitely different for the countertop. Once you select your island slab, take a sample and match a solid color from that. Like a off white or pure white stone. Nothing too busy. Your island has to be the main show! You can pull the colors of island in back splash maybe. All said, do what you like the best!

Just remembered, butcher block counters and soapstone counters are getting popular too. For your kitchen not a bad option.
