A few things to try: lower the art and put the two pieces together as a visual unit. Leave one frame's width between them, center point of the pair at 5' above the floor. You see now the top one is as high as the window frame, so that isn't working. The center of the starburst should be 5' above the floor or it should relate to the sofa by being lower. What is the big plant sitting on? Looks like a coffee table that would work better with your sofa and the plant would do better on the black pedestal you are using for a coffee table. It is too tall and small as a coffee table. We aren't seeing the side of the room opposite the sofa, but it seems there is a window there. However, your sofa looks all shoved up against the walls and is not letting the room breath. You don't have room for a window treatment behind it. Even leaving 6" between it and the walls will give the illusion that you have more space. Is there other seating or furniture in this room? Can portions of the sofa be separated?

I agree with everything Decoenthusiaste has said. I think you could do with a low storage cabinet on the art wall, and it would be good to keep fresh flowers on it with a couple of beautiful items that have personal meaning for you. It looks as though you may have blinds on the windows -- would you consider Roman blinds there, in a pattern that echoes your patterned cushions? Your choices have been great, but the room needs a bit of softening and personalising.

I agree with Deco and Rina. Would also like to recommend taking the large plant off the glass table, moving the table away from that spot completely and putting the plant on the floor behind the sofa in place of the glass table. Would it be possible to purchase a new coffee table to use at the center of the sofa?

The black pedestal table is cute, but it's too small as a coffee table. It would make a great end table though. After you pull the sofa out from the wall, you should be able to put it at the end of the sofa on the wall with the two small pictures. Actually, I think the star burst mirror would look better on that wall. I would remove the two small pics.

Art over the back of the sofa would tie it all together for you. You did great with the throw pillows, but they're not enough all by themselves to bring the whole color scheme together, which is very pretty! I would add a few more pillows to make the setting appear more cozy. Will post ideas for a coffee table and art.

I have to agree, but there is something else missing and I think it may just be the lack of defining lines. When you have an entirely similar colour scheme that only varies the hue just a bit, then it kind of all blends into one big blur. Use a bold colour to define - that could be anything ranging from painting the aluminium windows frames to define them to getting a carpet colour that uses a variety of different colours.

Move the sofa off of that back wall, and if you're trying to conceal that window, use curtains along that entire wall - that will create depth in the room between the beautifully textures curtained wall and the space between the back of the sofa.

I think you have a lot of wall and I love that - so make use of it - put up something you love, art? A floating bookshelf? Plants on floating shelves? Maybe a moss wall? Sky is the limit, but create a focal point that aids you in the function of the room. For example, if this is the place you come to relax, make sure that the colours and textures and images and even smells, all sooth you. If this is a place you like to entertain your guests, maybe put up a conversation starter.

Sky is the limit.

Definitely agree with the others, to move the couch off the walls. It will do wonders, I think. And, will allow you to add some drapes. Also agree about moving that plant off the table.

If you want to create a division between the rooms, how about an open shelving unit?

I see the other comments and agree but also see something maybe even easier for an immediate answer and cost effective. Can you use your rug elsewhere? It blends into the couch color and does not help define that space. If you had a white, high pile or even patterned, or plain dark it would define that space if you have no other solutions in terms of couch placement. If you went with a darker rug-say slate gray, then you could use some darker accessories. I love that white/cream pattern on you pillows...could you use that fabric for a privacy panel for that window? It might look interesting contrasted with a dark matchstick shade. Then you could get 2 larger dark framed art pieces for the wall to tie-in the dark but to pop-out the dark and balance it with the window. I think a coffee table would be difficult to fit in there but possibly a small rectangular lucite one or another dark stool type to leave it more balanced. Also, then you could get a big, chunky or finer, cashmere style dark throw to bring in that contrast without making many purchases or changes to the fine job you've already done.

However, a few thoughts and questions - I'm not sure if I can move the sectional away from the wall because that would cut into the walkway making the room even smaller? I don't think the sofa can be separated. There's a wall with framed pictures and an alcove for the TV directly in front of this space. It's an open design that leads to the kitchen (which is why I included the photo).

I apologize about the big plant on the side. It sits atop a coffee table that I'm trying to sell. The plant would be on the floor of course :)

I appreciate the comments on my "coffee table". I realized after it arrived that it was too small. I saw this design with this type of table on my Houzz Ideabook and thought it perfectly with the Espresso color to match my kitchen cabinets. You're right though that it's too small. I love the suggested table that you included but I was afraid it might too big and limit the seating space between table and sofa. Would it be too much if I ordered another of the same table or should I change it altogether?

I also forgot to include that I have roller shades for the windows to give it a modern feel. The color can be seen on the casette above the windows. I was trying to achieve a beach tone affect with my colors but wanted some pop of colors using the pillows. I love the suggested art pieces. How can I order them or can you suggest a good website to shop for reasonable art decor?

One more thing.. about a storage cabinet under the framed art. Would a sofa table be okay instead?

Hi Maysie. My preference under the art would be a solid shape -- hence the storage cabinet suggestion, but I think a sofa table would work well too. Would pulling the sectional away from the wall just a few inches make any real difference to the walkway? It's just a matter of getting some breathing space in there, I think.

I agree, it doesn't have to be moved a lot, just centered and off both walls, at least a few inches. I think it will help a lot.

Depending upon where you are located, I suggest that you go to local art shows or festivals and meet some regional artists whose art might enliven your room. They might even take on a commission for you. Check with local or regional museums for reprints of their holdings or posters of their exhibits. I am all about shopping local! Hi Maysie. You only need to pull the sofa away from the wall an inch or two. That shouldn't impede the walkway at all. The little pedestal table you purchased is a cool design, but it's too high to be a coffee table. I would go with a new table and measure first. Keep a foot or so between the table and the sofa around all sides. Then pick a lower table that fits within your measured space.

Bring more pillows! The secret to a luxurious cozy look is having layers. You don't have many layers therefore there is this feeling of things being unfinished.
Even though the couch is beautiful and looks comfortable it lacks coziness. You can make it feel cozier by adding the cushions like I said (maximum two matching cusions the rest mix and match so it adds interest) but also by hanging a large painting instead of the small mirror.
Another reason why it looks unfinished is because of the chair that screams "I am a temporary solution for a coffee table!" :))) You need a bigger coffee table...
Also the window looks a bit bare... I don't know if the style works for you but I would have a nice curtain there. Also I would keep most of the things neutral (including the painting).

I moved the "coffee table" and moved it to the end of the sofa underneath the two art pieces. As suggested, I placed a cute centerpiece of orchid flowers to accent the art pieces. I have yet to line them up together as one visual unit. I am thinking of getting a neutral maybe glass top coffee table to still give it an open and light feel to the room. Definitely will add more pillows once I've selected an art piece to replace my sunburst mirror. I agree, it's too small for the wall. It doesn't quite give it a pop of color. I found the artwork by Carol Black. The dimensions indicate 27x27. It's actually smaller than sunburst mirror I have currently have up. I think I need a bigger painting in that wall.

With the bigger coffee table you are thinking of going with, I would recommend using one that is either as dark as the espresso end table you have or using an ottoman that is in a brighter color. I think if you add some more punches of color via coffee table/ottoman and larger piece of artwork behind the sofa you will be amazed at the difference it will make.

Well said Decoenthusiaste, also remove a plant on the table. It's too much, get a rectangular coffee table. LESS IS MORE.
