Quartz is a great option. In the Midwest it is the top choice in counter material right now. I am currently working on a kitchen and installing Cambria color: Torquay, which has that classic marble look. You do give up some of the natural veining of real marble, but it is all about compromises. Good luck!

Julie is totally right about the look, as it won't be quite as beautiful as natural marble. However, you could go with an all-white Silestone like we did here and then use the Calcutta gold marble in the backsplash. That way you have function on the counters and form in the backsplash...the best of both (form and function)!

Not to mention, 'real' marble stains so easily! Of course, if you don't mind that, stains can just be part of the deal. As for me, I LUV marble, and the staining is minimal since I am 'aware' of the situation. It just adds 'character'! Also, if you bake, it is WONderful for that as a counter top. Also good for mixing ice-cream flavors on it! Just sayin' :)
