There's a lot of options. One would be extend the ground plane of the porch out towards the street so that its not tucked back in hiding and build it out of decking material. Then, build an open trellis type overhang attached at the edge of the roof and out towards the right so that you can get light into the space. Make the ground plane large enough so that you could have a large seating area. 9' deep is the minimum for that. The trellis doesn't have to be that deep. It can sit back in line with roof. Next, you could clad the current post and the new ones with some wood details to beef it up to make them more interesting instead of the utilitarian look it currently has. Also, it would be nice to change the approach to your landing. Remove the straight walkway and layout a new one that meanders in curves or angles. It can approach the front door at 45 degrees which will show someone your door which is more inviting.

Would you rather have the front porch, or the side yard privacy? The easy way to expand the porch is to just extend the gable of the house and relocate the fence to the rear corner. Most peope would rather have their exterior space be private in the rear rather than in tbe front though. Why do you want more space in the front?
