Need help with flooring

Hello. Just moved into a really cool contemporary home built by an architect for his family. However, it needs some updating. What I can't figure out is what to do with these two carpeted rooms. The home has clear red cedar ceiling in some rooms, these included, and a reddish stained oak trim work. My wife and I like modern/mid century modern styling and would prefer hard surfaces but living in MN I worry about it being too cold. Natural thinking is wood floors but think it maybe too much wood with the ceiling. Thought about tile but the foyer in btw the two rooms is tile and seems like something else may be better. Looked into poured resin floors but can't find anyone in MN that does it. Open to leaving as carpet but need something that holds up to cat clawing and is light.

Also not sure what to do with trim work. Do I paint it white so it doesn't clash with flooring? That's a lot of work so trying not to go there as it's a 5000 sq ft home with lots of oak trim. Just not sure how to pull this all together.

Thanks for any advice
