What a beautiful blank slate. I think you need a tree in the large front yard, not too close to the steps - maybe fifteen ft at least and to the left. I'd put a small tree/bush (obviously I'm not a pro!) In front of each post. Then mulch out a "wavy" line on each side of steps and fill in with some flowering plants. Go big, the house and space allows for it!

How nice to have a blank slate. I would have the plans drafted by a professional but be prepared to tell them what you're looking for. For me I wanted low maintenance, all season greenery (evergreens) and a clean compact look with a spot for annuals and color. Since I was rather impatient, I did some research and then installed an app on my ipad called Iscape. It allowed me to design the landscape in the front of my house by adding hardscape and plants and shrubs. Good luck!
