There are tons of doors and windows with that super dark trim. So I don't want to redo those, it would take more time than I have.

This looks more like a reception area than an office. That said, it looks to me like the biggest issue is the lighting which casts a sickly green glow over everything. I would do some research to see if a change in bulbs or a filter over those lenses might improve the situation. I have a feeling just painting isn't going to do much here.

You make a good point. This lighting is terrible!

Additionally, I think this was a receptionists station at one point, but there's no seating area for people! We don't really have a lot of visitors, so that's not an issue.

I recommend investing in some new office chair. Here are some ideas.

I've got a contractor coming today to tell me what can be done with this desk. I think I'll paint all of the walls. I am working on decluttering today. Then I think I'll hang a nice piece of abstract artwork where these plaques are currently hung....

I saw a cool idea on Pinterest for creating abstract art. I already have all the supplies in my office. The only thing I would need to buy is canvas. So that'll be a cheap project!

It really depends on the use of the space. Any business with a receptionist should have a large reception desk with one side higher to receive clients. If the building doesn't receive clients in that way or wants a more informal entry, then sure, the desk should go. Otherwise, it seems functional and maybe just needs a face lift.

Offices are notoriously ugly, in part because pieces are selected for function, not beauty. Some nice contemporary art might bring some life and joy to an otherwise greige space. Or you could try the Office Space route, of knocking down the top halves of all the cubicles. ;) (I don't see any here, but had to insert the reference because that's all I could think of while viewing the images!)

Hi---paint will do wonders. Yes, to painting the ceiling grid. As for the walls and trim do both the SAME color. Semi gloss or Satin finish. Good Luck!

After replacing the current fluorescent tubes with the "warm white" kind, I'd retake the photos, going around the room to show one photo per wall. If you are renting, ask the landlord about the repainting interval. Some ceiling tiles should be painted with ceiling tile paint to keep their acoustic properties. Others can be painted right over.

With a "slim to none" budget, I would look at bringing prints from home or buying some inexpensive 24 by 36 inch travel posters from art.com with $20 frames from amazon.com. You can add supermarket flowers in a small vase or bring some greenery from home to accent a $1 miniature pumpkin.

Do try to get as much of the old office file cabinets etc. out of the office. If the plaques are older than a year, they can be moved to storage. If they are current, they can be put where visitors can see them but not in your line of sight.
