We have put dark distressed wood in our family room, living and dining rooms. Our kitchen was light oak with beautiful dark grey granite with a little rust color running though it. Dark oak didn't match so to get away from the oak look and make the kitchen blend with the rest of the house we had the cabinets striped and stained a cherry red. It looks terrible! The grain shows through and the bright red stain doesn't go with the rest of the house at all. It looks like orangish-red paint with oak grain! What can I do to make the cabinets look better. All the $$ down the drain! We're waiting to re-do the tile floor until we figure this out.
