Why not paint the walls AND the cabinets, coordinate the knobs and pulls with the silvertoned fixtures and if your budget permits, get larger mirrors perhaps with an interesting frame that are as high but wider to open up all that space in between.
We just finished painting a small vanity the same color as the walls and while the bathroom is all tiled and not at all like yours, it really looked great. Use the right primer and a finish with a bit of a sheen for the vanity and you'll add some interest even though the colors are the same.
With the larger mirrors, there won't be as much wall.

While I would love to paint the cabinets I don't think I want to take on that project. I was thinking I could darken them fairly easy (hate the color now) and add new hardware. Still at a loss for a color though.

those Mirrors are too small for the scale of the bathroom. Agree with above comment as well

From your ideabooks, it appears you are drawn to neutral colors. Color is such a personal choice that I think you're going to have to decide the initial direction you want to proceed and then perhaps others can help from that point. Gel stains come in a variety of colors so I would suggest start from there and work up to the walls. With the countertop, your choices are limitless.
