Agree with the advice above, introduce color through the drapes, cushions and a bold artwork on that wall- a clock will do nothing for the space.

I haven't thought about flipping the room, but that's a really good idea. I don't see why that wouldn't work. I'll ask my husband about it tonight and see if there's some reason it can't be flipped.

Plain bold curtains and an unexpected lamp will help alleviate some of the bland.

My advice would be to hang a pair of light blue drapery panels on the bank of tall windows. I don't know how attached you are to the white wood blinds, but you could add some color and texture by swapping them out for woven wood shades. Depending on the overall combined width of the tall windows, you could opt for one shade to create a cohesive look. I agree with Scarlet Designs - drape the tall windows only and leave the smaller windows alone. You've done a beautiful job so far!

Thanks! I love the idea of the light blue drapery panels. I'm having a really hard time finding a lamp. We have three dogs, so I don't want anything really expensive that I have to worry about them breaking. Any recommendations? My husband isn't a fan of glass bases, but we're definitely open to ceramic or dark metal finishes.

On windows use a color block with a ice blue with charcolate. On nods only under that a bamboo shade in dark brow,. Home Depot carries. Get a round end table in dark wood. a lamp with a blue base and cream drum style shade. Get a coffee table can be glass or dark wood. 36" if not in budget put a brown zebra print throw over ottoman. pillows in prints mix with solids from colors in rug. To right of TV add a big potted palm fake is fine in a ceramic pot in a deep blue. Fan in dark brown.

You have a lot of beige. Mix it up in other room too. A floor lamp on end of sofa would work too. Small dark brown bamboo shades on small windows keep rolled up half way. They are for looks. Should match one on big window. Bamboo a great way to finish windows, take it though out.

On end table facing TV. Tall pot (3) in various heights, mix up colors from rug. TJMax the best for accessories, like pillows, lamps, plants.

Instead of floor lamp on end by TV go big tall pots to fill corner. TJMax has some very interesting ones. Go 4-5 ft for one and a foot shorter for other mix it up no matching. Nothing else over TV looks strange. On end tables look for interesting accessories, small plants on top of old books is a interesting look. Buy a few things one thing about TJ you can always return. Experiment with different looks till it looks right to you. Accessories make a room.

A TV in front of a window is not a good look.

Also consider turning rug ninety degrees; extend under front feet of TV cabinet. Sofas do not need to be on it completely, just first six or eight inches is fine.

You may have to buy a drape panel, or three, and bring them home and layout in room to find the color that works best. Don't stress about getting it right the first time.

I would change out the blinds for bamboo romans, and go with ALMOST deep blue drapes hung from right up to the ceiling. Definitely ditch the "come with" sofa pillows, and mix that up a bit with some sapphire blues and beiges and white, though the beige and white ones will need some texture. Because the rug has a business of it's own, be careful that other large additions don't read as busy or it will just be unsettling. A large piece of art with some strong, dark colors will anchor it. Rooms need some darks to anchor it. Black sometimes doesn't sound like it will go, but throw some little pinches here and there and one big one, and you'd be surprised how it completes a space. And since all of these colors read as neutrals, you need one bold accent color. I would go with a bold golden hued yellow, and the grayish, muted side, or a scarlet somewhere in the artwork that will pop large within the piece. Some organic elements (plants) and you're in business.

try Pottery Barn for drapes. Great colors and quality fabrics. Mine are on east facing window that gets hot afternoon sun(central valley of Ca.) and have no fading or wearing.

If you can move the TV (perhaps with hook ups, cables, etc you can't), I would place tv on the shorter wall under the high windows - will not look as lost and couch will be the focal point vs the tv/cabinet. Place the longer of the two couches where tv was and add artwork overhead. Place shorter couch under windows and a table/lamp between both couches and a floor lamp on the other end. I am a fan of soft colors, so I would go with additional pillows in a pale blue and grey solids and perhaps a navy throw over the end. Place a tray/accessories on your ottoman and because of the odd windows, to create harmony, would just add roman blinds. [houzz=]

Many good suggestions here. Would like to add that I prefer to see a darker wall behind a large TV like this. As it is here, it's a black hole. And if this is your only TV, it's worth it to consider how light from the windows might obscure the picture.

That would depend on you, and how your windows are oriented with regard to the sun. I'm just noting that a room needs to function, in addition to looking great, and I know how frustrating it is to watch a TV screen with the sun glaring on it.

I am of the opinion that you choose the darker color on the rug to paint the TV wall and same color for your drapes both long and short windows then have a conspicuous art frame with red background and a red pendant light but standing fan and not ceiling fan.

I think you could do with something original on the wall too - a picture with some colour perhaps also? A very special vintage vase with a simple yellow floral arrangement would be softening, in front of a taller lamp with a picture frame with a person photo in it? I love your blinds and I simply love your cabinet but not a fan of the tv being the focus of a room. I would move the room about about too if you could and maybe put the tv even on a 45 degree in the corner with the surround sound close to cabinet so the wires are not seen. Bad fensui - however its spelt. Take it your husbands priority is tv and surround sound and you are after some individual classy style. Totally think dark blue walls are done!! Yesterday.
I would move the mat also. How about a chantelier on dimmer. Very cool. My husband disagrees. smiles. Style is individual. A little bit of colour is def needed. I like modern old. Find a funky lamp in an antique store or on line? Such fun. It can be addictive - its the find!!

i'd suggest that you first paint the walls a couple of shades deeper than it is currently to create a little contrast between upholstery, the tv stand, and the walls. then hang simple, straight hanging curtain panels in either the cream color or the soft blue that you mentioned that is in the rug. I'd also replace the blinds with some bamboo or woven grass shades...this will add some needed texture and warmth into the space. I'd also consider sanding the side table and painting in a soft black and "antique" the paint finish with a little sanding....the tv should never be the only black element in a space. adding some large scaled wall art will make the room feel more "finished". I always have luck finding something great at art.com. i love art prints, they are easy on the budget and look fantastic if framed properly. when choosing art be sure you pick pieces that you LOVE to look at, that reflect your personal style into your space and they should all compliment one another's palette....I like to be sure that in a space, I always use pieces with a common accent color, which is in the room (the blue?). oh, one more thing...I'd break up the matchy toss pillows and look for some that are solid, some that have a textured fabric and some in a print that all work together to add some dimension. and table and floor lamps are essentials....they add a much warmer and more complimentary lower level of lighting. just be sure all lamps have the same shades. you have a really GREAT space! keep us posted!! :)

It bothers me that the loveseat with its small table is sticking out over the door/hall way. I think if you "flipped" the room...put your TV under the high windows and your love seat where the TV is now, it would look better. As for drapes, how about the blue Grover pictured or maybe the background color of your rug....is it green?

While I seriously question how surrounding inanimate objects would distract from the action in a movie, that's what he believes, SO, that might be a case for putting the TV on the wall underneath the high windows. Put the bigger couch on the opposite wall, facing the TV, and dress the wall above the couch to your heart's content.

OR, if the current TV wall works best for viewing, paint a dark, contrasting band (borrow a color from the rug) from floor to ceiling. Extend it at least 6 inches beyond the width of the TV. You might then be able to add pictures, clocks, etc. on either side of this band, without having them fight with the the TV.

That's a great idea! Painting a band onto the wall is a creative way to circumvent my husband's request.

1. You might want to flip the furniture around so people are not silhouetted against the front tall windows and put the TV under the clerestory windows. Then you can put another nice piece of art work above the sofa.

2. Get an armoire for the TV and audio/sound equipment. It will hide the modern equipment and fill the wall. Get a short but long one if putting under the clerestory windows.

3. Paint the walls a pale beige. Although some of your pictures show a color darker than the trim work so they may be fine the way they are.

4. Get rid or the rug..its dated... get something with a more modern pattern in blues and beiges, along with cushions to match or complement, with a splash of very dark brown. Pale blues with a dark chocolate brown color is a nice combination.

5. The window coverings are fine, but turn the blinds the other way so the light bounces off the ceiling and illuminates the room

6. Invest in nice piece of wall art/painting for the entry area. The picture there is too small.
