Close to pulling all my hair out. HELP PLEASE!

I'm not sure which countertop to go with between two options.. Not permanently staying in this home. I like the brightness of the wood, but not the variation in it, along with a few knots. Not going for a "country" look. Sorry. The other counter is laminate and looks like doo-doo brown (lol), but these are really the only affordable choices I have. I don't want to special order anything since I'll be moving. Any opinions are much appreciated. (The tiles in the images attached are the tiles I'm using.) Everything was changed due to a water leak. Also, I'm changing the lights to brushed stainless and adding some cans. Sorry if this is confusing. Trust me I'm confused myself. I think next time I'll ask the houzzers in the beginning. :) Pictures with both lights on and off. Also, the peninsula is staying with the butcherblock. The light really effects the wall and countertop colors. I'm exhausted. :)

    Tiff...

Nice that your shopping was successful and sounds like a pleasant conversation and a new friend... so a great bonus there too.

Nice find for a spacious nightstand... from someone who has alotta stuff piled on hers. Lol

I'm happy things are progressing well for you, as far as design goes... I need to get my behind moving on that too... i start and then get off track and I'm a terrible room jumper. Lol Not to mention if I start looking around I get new ideas and that's not always a good thing... 😁

    Share pics when you can.

Oh no Nora, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of life, injuries and destruction... so sad, and scary for those families I'm sure.

Personally, of storms in general... tornadoes scare me the most. I've seen one pretty close...or close enough for me...when driving with my guy one time and that was enough for me. The size and the strength you can see and feel from them... unforgettable even at a distance.

I pray for everyone involved... 🙏

Hi Alice, nice to hear your winds have calmed down... hope the day is a pleasant one.

We're mild today... 69, but we're expecting rain... guess I'll take it, not much choice...lol

Printesa, so glad the little one is safe and sound... and glad they took precautions with the storms they had. Have you heard anymore from her?

Okay, I'm jealous... baking ,and baking fresh bread... yum, the aroma alone. So .. what kinds did you bake?

Thank you... we are feeling better, though this morning we're both a bit stuffier...lol maybe the weather? I don't know...but I'll be glad when I wake up breathing well through my nostrils! LOL

Thx also about his injury.. hoping it's the last ...ever! 🙂

How's ur weather 2day? We are hitting 69...but rain later.

I saw lots of green popping up in my mulch. 🥰

I can just imagine your garden 😍...

Alice, they had no more tornadoes so they had a good night sleep. I don't know all the shelters they have. I know that one of them is the basement of a building where they also have a bookstore. At the orientation they told us that it's one of the shelters. I am sure that most buildings here have basements and they are all concrete.

Oh thank goodness they didn’t have to go back in. Well it’s certainly nice to know they have some basements for shelter. So scary! Yea, almost every northern area has basements, I think. So smart! I wish we had one here for many reasons :). My daughter’s neighbor had a shelter built underground next to their home with a gate between the yards so my kids could get in as well. The thing is huge, cement. Was quite an undertaking and very interesting to see it go in. Cement about 12’ by 40’. Bad thing was after it was covered with a cement top, it weighed about 120,000 lbs! The water tun off from both homes had not been dredged yet and with all the rain a few months ago, my SIL told me IT FLOATED! It’s now been stabilized and french drains and larger pumps brought in. The neighbor asked how did my son in law knew it had floated? He said “put it this way, it was level with your sidewalk, now it’s 6” above” 👀 talk about a project over there!

zaz, the weather here is 67, but cloudy. It's warmer outside then indoors..I opened the door to warm up:)) We were supposed to get rain, but I guess yesterday's drizzle and this morning as well dried out the clouds:)) The bulbs are out, but of course the deer found some:( I need to respray Monday. I also have to wait and see if the hydrangeas trees by the garage are still alive or if the damage done to the trunks by the deer was too much..

The little one is well..no more storms. She is used to the tornado watches and warnings..usually they get watches, which is just a heads up.

Bread baking does fragrance the house:) I made simple bread. meaning, just flour, water, yeast, salt and a bit of oil. For her we made some dough that also had orange zest, vanilla filled with walnut, coco powder and sugar mixture. I also made some dessert that looks like rugelach..not much, but just some things that she can take with her.

Speaking of breathing well, I am thinking to get some of those breath right strips. I was watching someone who said that they wore them because it helps them sleep better(none of them had stuffy noses or other issues). I should get some..might help you also when you have a cold..

I need to figure out what to cook today..when the little one is not home, I don't feel like cooking:)

Stay hydrated and rest. Add some perfume as well:)

Love the nightstand Tiffany that's really nice! It is 46° here and the snow is all melted and there's buds out and I seen my fourth fly in the last couple days you must be down at River level there to have flooded in an underground shelter

OMG Nora, that is terrible in Arkansas. My friend has only been living there for a few months, so I only know that this was her first hurricane scare. But she wasn't in an area expecting it to be bad, but took care regardless. I don't watch TV news since I am on Roku streaming, so unless someone tells me weather is bad I have no clue. I just saw that Texas had a huge pileup with 70+ mph winds and truck and car parts strewn about the freeway. That looked really scary.

I'd feel better about flying to CA if only this sever weather would calm down. I don't do well with turbulence. Strangers wouldn't appreciate me clutching them.

Finally we are getting some good temperatures here 45 Mon and 65 on Tues. Wow we are all over the map on weather. So glad snow is gone. Today I am calling the landscape guy to come out and figure out what we can do on the yard this year. Thought I best get him before the start of the season. Last year all we could do is get things shaped up. This year I will start making it my own yard by moving some of the plants around and changing from the yellow.

I have 16 hydrangeas that can be split and replanted around the property. These beauties grow to be 5' H, so I want to plant them where they can stretch their branches and be what they were meant to be. They have been cramped long enough in those hedges.

Anyone have any experience with Redbud or other flower trees in this colder climate of 6B. I need to break up all this green in the backyard.

Thanks on the nightstand ladies. I thought guests would like to have a large table for nightstands to put their stuff on. I always hated the lack of room on my small nightstands. Going big this time. So now I only need one more pair. Not bothering with dressers because all the closets have shelving and rods built in so there is already places to put things. Better to have more space for a chair. All the bedrooms have TV hookup but no TVs yet. LOL my neighbor Jeff who used to live here was supposed to swap out the kids toilets. Darn near killed myself trying to sit on the 14" high toilet upstairs. Wow that sure gets you alert. Need to have him swap it for an adult size. Glad it wasn't the middle of the night for a guest.

tiffany, redbuds are beautiful. If they are selling it in your area, then they should work.

Red buds are problematic in my area, which is technically at six. In any zone, there’s always little micro climates. Your best bet is to talk to the neighbours or take a look in your yard and their yards and see what is doing well. Pagoda dogwood is a stunning choice… I like it better than a redbud actually. It should be OK for your zone. The question to ask yourself is what time of year do you want to have the green broken up by color? Shrubs have a short bloom time and then they’re green for the most part.

Nora…😟. Please check in on my thread if you can. I’ve been aware of the tornado issues in the USA. It made the news here in Canada. I’ve been thinking about you peeps in those states. Gls, I can’t imagine being in a high-rise condo during a tornado. Definitely not my idea of a good time.

Men I don't know what's wrong with them! Oh had a battery that leaked it didn't show low indicator on the weather radio for the battery but it leaked and that was messing up my sinuses for days until I went to dusting and I found it! So I had to pull out his chair and clean the clean that up and I clean the wall cuz this house I likes to sweat even though we have a nose on the house I hate this house I really do but I take care of it try to make it better do the best I can I'm glad my sinuses got better after that and I got rid of that funky smell by leaving the window open

We have a lot of Eastern redbuds here, which is fine for zones 4-9. My MIL had a Rubby Falls and did very well, but she didn't like to have that large blob of leaves for the rest of the season. We dug it out, but we had to cut roots in order to take it out..we gave it a try by replanting it in our yard, but it didn't make it because of all the stress to its roots. It has beautiful flowers, but not a fan of how it looks after that.

Dogwoods are beautiful,,the Pagoda one mentioned by Lia is very pretty

If I had the space, I would plant a variegated giant dogwood (aka wedding cake tree). The variegated pink dogwood is also beautiful..there are several kinds..once you go down the rabbit hole of dogwoods, you'll end up with a yard of trees:))

Ooooo yard of dogwoods... ok with me! haha

This used to be the 'city of dogwood trees' and was pretty much our 'official flower' - they were just beautiful, with white (sometimes pink) trees blooming on block after block all over town in early Spring. Unfortunately our dogwoods have been decimated by something that is just wiping them out. Climate change is the major cause - it's just getting too warm here for them to survive and thrive. And powdery mildew is another.

This would be dogwood season here right now if we had many left. There was an article on Facebook last week written by the gardeners at Florida State University which said that entire campus has only four trees still blooming in scattered places around campus.

It's a real shame; we loved our early sign of Spring. Redbud trees still bloom, and japanese magnolias, but the dogwoods are no more.

Hi Printesa, our weather was a mix today...from warm and sunny, to breezy...then to cloudy and windy ...then really chilly. Not my favorite day...lol, but tomorrow's another one.

    Hope your hydrangea survived...

That baking you did...sounds so good, nothing better than fresh baked anything.

Glad the little one is good, and I bet she's enjoying those things you sent her with.

Btw, thx for mentioning those strips... we should probably try that, it sure wouldn't hurt.

I could finally smell dinner...while it was cooking...for maybe 10 mins one nostril cleared...lol it smelled pretty good..haha

I made a boneless pork shoulder... some un-fried rice lol... simple with pork egg and onions. Also made smashed potatoes...and a salad. This way they had their choice of rice or potatoes.

So, what did you end up cooking? I know what you mean, when some of them aren't eating... Id rather skip it...

I submitted because he started rubbing my legs and I tapped out of the browser by accident and was afraid I'd lose it again...lol nope, not this time. Haha

Thanks Printesa, definitely will be resting tomorrow...because we ran around enough today. I just hope he has an easy day tomorrow too...and doesn't have to stand inside and cool areas with the produce...because he's not feeling great either.

The fragrance today was very light and low... :) Springtime in a Park

Jay…😢 on the dogwood. We have a few problems like that here, primarily hemlock, and ash…with diseases and insects that have moved further north due to the change in the climate.

zaz, I hope you slept well after that massage. The sun is shining and it will warm up. It's still cold and the wind is chilly, but at least it's sunny. I am waiting for OH to finish some things and then we have to go shopping..I want to pass by the nursery to get a few spring flowers for the pots in the front so I have some color until the annuals come in. So far, I only have late blooming crocus and some starflowers

Cooking yesterday,...he had some chicken that I cooked the day before and veggies. My MIL made some soup with all kinds of veggies and mushrooms so I ate that. We'll see what we eat today...probably something quick after we are done with the shopping..we've been postponing this for a while and now we have to:))

I hope the oldest is feeling better.. Take care of yourself as well..you need all the energy:)

Hi Printesa... hope your trip to the nursery was successful. I'd love to see what you got... :D

Thank you btw... I was up on and off through the night coughing... but not bothersome, just tiring. At least the coughs are productive. He sleeps great...lol Of course, he was sick first... he gifted it to me. Lol

Anyway, I don't really feel sick... just tired. I have slacked on my thyroid meds this last week though... 🙄

Oh yum... the soup your MIL made sounds yummy! All I have to hear is mushrooms..and I'm in! Lol

I was tired, so lazy... i made chicken sandwiches. Seasoned the chicken..and seared it, layered ham.and cheese on top... added a spicy honey mustard I made and then topped it with a chopped salad I had leftover.

I'm now making mushrooms tomorrow... not sure how, but hearing that... I want them. Lol

Oh and yes, thank you...the OMinion is better... he said it might just be his allergies bothering him. I hope so, because it's horrible to work when your sick. He used up his Pto recently... figures, then you need it and don't have it.

Hope you have a pleasant evening and that you had something tasty for dinner.

Trying to catch up here. ..we loved our 2 redbuds at our first home! Our pink dwarf dogwood had to be replace 2 times before the 3rd one took root.

Yes on the breath right strips. They worked for me. But I keep forgetting to NOT PUT night cream on my nose. It causes the strip to pop off. 😢

Last night we had breakfast for dinner. Bacon, pancakes, hash brown potatoes, OH had BLTS. And strawberries! Today we both go out. Me with my lunch bunch to a new Irish theme restaurant, Galway. And he is on his own. 😀

Hi Gls, hope you have a great time out with the ladies...and your OH with whatever he does too. :)

I'm having my breakfast right now... scrambled eggs and banana 🍌 and strawberries 🍓 with cream. Trying to get in all the fruits and veggies I can.

I love breakfast for dinner btw... :) We don't do that often enough.

Just realized, should have put fresh spinach on my eggs... oh well, later I guess. I'm not really hungry anyway....just making myself eat something.

Thx for the info on the strips... I think I need them right now... I feel like I have cotton stuffed in my ears and nose. Lol

My Rueben sandwich was delicious! I am not a fan of sauerkraut so I order it without it. We each had a different menu item and we all enjoyed lunch. However, the restaurant was so noisy! And very hard to enjoy conversations.

Gls Maybe it’s an ageing thing, but I find the level of noise in restaurants to be super distracting. Between the music and the conversations of everyone around you, it’s very hard. I went out to lunch recently with my sons and the decibel levels were pretty high.

Well it looks like we have turned the corner to real Spring. Always makes you feel energized. Yeah. I've got a lot of things for the upstairs guest rooms to make them look habitable. Just ordered this bedding that I have looked at for so long. I finally committed to it. Only bought the Augusta duvet + 2 matching pillows. Figure I can make the rest of the pieces. I already found a similar cream matelassé quilt for $20 a lot cheaper than the $350 Augusta one. I can fill in with regular cream sheets and I can duplicate copy the pillows on my own. Just need some black trim for some of them. Is it me or does that see expensive for a quilt?

I had read that if you buy a duvet you can change the weight of it from Winter to Summer and still have the same look, but if you buy the comforter it will be too warm in the Summer and the bedding won't match. I thought that made good sense.

zaz, I hope you had a better day....the weather was beautiful so maybe that helped a bit.

I took advantage of the weather and planted the perennials I received yesterday in the mail. I was going to finish cutting the grasses in the back, but by the time I finished other things I had, I was a bit too tired..so tomorrow it is. We are supposed to get rain in the afternoon, but I'll finish before that.

From the nursery I only got two flats of pansies/violas. I wanted to get some other plants I saw, but I had to stop myself from getting everything I saw:))

If I don''t forget tomorrow, I will take photos of the hellebores I planted last year in the garden..they started to bloom..I need more of them:))

Cooking..today I made some burgers for him and sliced some potatoes and grilled those as well. I usually like to eat the potatoes with garlic paste, especially the green leaves of the garlic, but the leaves are still too young to use. Tomorrow we'll probably make a large salad and see what else..

Stay warm there and rest until you regain your energy and health..some chamomile tea with honey and lemon..I just finished mine:)

    thank you!

Alice, they are for shade/part shade. In the wild they are found in the forest

I think they are on a list I have made for shade when I get ready. I make many lists :). Nice to see them in person 💗 I did a bit more clearing today but should have worn a mask :(, I can taste the yard 😂 rinsed everything on me, but still just dusty and so much to rake, pull, pile, dump and repeat lol I’m tackling just a bit at a time this go round. Easier on this old bod! We have these sticky weeds! Get attached and grow over everything! OH still not feeling great came out to pull a weed! He was trying to get them off his house shoe then realized it was part of the green design on the toe part like a camo design. Kind of funny :).

    :( I hope he's ok?

Yea he’s ok Happy, thank you Happy, me too! He’s having a bit of cabin fever so I know he’s coming about but I can hear it in his voice and the congestion is still there but he’s managed to keep it loose which is good! He might want a smoothie soon! He loves those, I have to keep the kids again tomorrow so perhaps Saturday!

  • yesterday

Alice, I hope OH is feeling better..this season had all kinds of viruses that took forever to clear.

We have a really windy day here..One rose trellis keeps falling over when there are strong winds. We got something to anchor it so we need to try it..we tried with other things before and it didn't work out.

I have those sticky weeds (cleavers),,unless there are others:) We have a bag of tea of that plant..it's good for clearing the throat.

  • yesterday

Cleaver! I looked that up just now Printesa. That’s exactly what that is, oodles and oodles of those, grrr. We calmed down on the winds late yesterday but I think we are in for more. Double grrr lol. Hopefully what you got can hold up that rose? Constant care but you make everything sooo pretty 💗 so, you make tea of that? Hm? There are so many plants with medicinal properties, it’s amazing actually! Thank you for OH, he’s trying! He wants that smoothie 😂 I guess I’ll pick is up one on my way home tonight :)

  • yesterday

Down here to day is suppose to be the worst day this week for pollen and allergies. So I told my friends to stay inside. Our cars are buried in pollen. It’s ridiculous. I’m glad I have a car wash membership. I take my car 2 times a week! 🤧

  • yesterday

Sorry for all who are suffering with allergies, colds, or flu. That is so not fun. I'm not sure what my body is up to in warding off all of those, but this is my 12th year with none of those ailments. I wish I could market or share what is making me immune -- have no clue but I am grateful. I have the worst sleep routine and eat a terrible diet -- basically everything they tell you not to do is my lifestyle.
