Need help with seating arrangement and divider between rooms

Our new home is under construction and has a sunken living room right off of the entry and next to a raised coffee bar. We need to find a way to separate the sunken living room from the coffee bar (like a raised planter or railing) and we have to figure out how wide to make the stairs into the living room and how to arrange the furniture. The living room is 32 feet long with huge windows at the end and 24 feet wide. The fireplace runs most of the length of the living room. We have to put our grand piano in the room and would like to have several seating areas. We really need help figuring out the proper width of the three stairs and how to run a planter or railing to separate the rooms. Any help is TRULY a Godsend!!!

I'd forget the planter idea and keep the step wide open in the entire left corner across from the fireplace. You will have more flexibility in furniture placement.

See how this step down off the kitchen is? I'd keep it all open like this, including the entry step down. Awesome. Notice you can place furniture there, even though it's in front of steps.

HI -- I would not do planters -- very old idea . As Darzy said keep that one side open and as for the other planter space beside the fireplace , it would be better to have a long built in console . I am sure you could use the storage too. Straighten the piano at that wall or try it set the way you have it on the plan. Have a long sofa facing the fireplace and two lounge chairs set where you have space that feels right to you . Perhaps set one to the right end of the fireplace and the other at the other end of the sofa or near the piano.

I agree about the planters...and like the idea of the built-in seating benches with storage. They will come in handy for when you have overflow of guests as they will use them for seating. You could have a sectional sofa making a separate area for the fireplace area and place the a couple of chairs in the area of the piano.
