Is that pine on the ceiling?

I'd go with wood IF you can find a color that looks good with the redwood.

Stone flooring would be gorgeous! Blending the fireplace into the floor and making the redwood pop. Two large rugs on either side of the fire place would look amazing as well as warmth over the stone.

Here are some ideas that would compliment either stone, or wood flooring.

I think a hardwood will give you a cozier feel than stone (but I love those rugs!) I would use the dark color of the beams to accent the walls as a floor color. Anything close to the walls will be too much of the same color and will never match perfectly. The beam color would be an amazing look and keep it rustic. It's a great space, and eliminating the red carpet will completely change the room!! If the room is busy and durability is a concern, you may consider a stranded bamboo product in a dark stain. They are 4 times harder than oaks and are gorgeous!
