We are contemplating putting a ceiling on our carport and covering any exposed "rafters" on our A frame contemporary home. Our contractor suggested that we could use greenboard or cement board in an outside application. Would you recommend the hardie board? Do you mud between pieces? Thanks again!

hello, not knowing anything about your project, it is impossible to recommend a product or a material.
Thats said, we have used Hardie on exterior applications, (aside from soffits).
See the project link below. The Impluvium panels were painted. Not knowing what your application. I hope it is helpful in illustrating what it might be (ignoring color of course!)
