I think flat is more timeless, but I've gotta say that the beveled is pretty cool.

I would strongly suggest flat. Aside fro being more timeless, it will be easier to to keep clean and maintain . And, probably more cost effective.

I love the look of beveled but personally went with flat for my own kitchen. It's more timeless and I've seen how odd electrical outlets look with the beveled tile (it's not flush to the wall).

The beveled is probably a little more expensive but I think it is a great way to add texture to the space. Since your tile will be all one color this will allow the light to hit the beveled area differently adding depth to your area. I disagree that they are more difficult to keep clean. Most of the time the bevels are large enough that they are very easy to wipe down. Both would offer a timeless look. Also think about creating an interesting pattern by staggering or using a herringbone pattern. Don't be afraid to play with the design.

I plan to use flat subway tile for cleanup, although I have to admit that the beveled is so tempting. Still, cleanup in a kitchen should be as simple as possible. In my current kitchen, when every little nook and cranny needs dusting or wiping, I've learned to simplify as I remodel. Therefore I went with flat. I agree with Expressive Interiors to change up the look of your tile by using a herringbone pattern, maybe over your cooktop or stove, etc.

Flat. Easier to clean, more timeless, classic and simple. I actually dislike the puffy look of bevelled subway tile, but obviously many people find it interesting. If I wanted texture and depth, I would not be looking at subway tile, but rather at other modern tile options.

Good point about the switch plates and outlets when using beveled.

Flat for me because it will be timeless and easier to clean.
