Oh my, well gosh, I was even thinking the "cluttered" one looked nice until I realized that was the one you were going to tackle til spotless. WOW! You must have some great storage ideas. Goodness, you meant business when you said declutter. I wish I had it in me. I envy you.

That desk is about the size of my entire office! In theory, when everything shelved, the word compact rather than clutter will apply; even my pink parlour will be tidy, with sillies arranged on shelves next to my comfy chair.

Thanks to everyone for lookin' in and being so positive. @BLee- a wide angle lens may be influencing your perception of my desk's size. That said, it's 34"W x 70" L and I'm grateful to the friends who have helped move the thing many times in the 30-some years I've owned it. @licksch- my workspaces can at times look like tornado zones while I'm working on something, especially if it's a big project.

Close, summilux. My office is 8' x 10', full of 12 or 13 bookcases and 1500 books, many in cartons scattered about, a mess since I just moved there 1st of September. Then off to Nashville and homebound past 2 weeks with light break to ankle. I can walk now with boot and 2 canes, so after mailing out backed up orders, I can get everything in proper place.

@Blee- got curious about those who looked in; seems many of you use Houzz as a social network as evidenced by the Nashville thread (politics being beyond the scope of a shelter thread- fun to read though) and licksch's thread about a collector in a smallish home (much more civil and kind- a Canadian staying true to stereotype). Anyway, we're kinda neighbors, if you're still in PDX; just down the road in Salem.

Hi Summilux - yes, still in PDX, fun to know you are in Salem .. Have spent a few delightful weekends there, mostly to see special shows at the art museum - love the kiddie park with the wonderful animal sculptures, the carousel, which I rode 3 or 4 times, even had a hotdog - and the lovely little victorian house, oh my, what a gem. There in drizzly February and looking forward to a Spring visit someday.

I am sad about the Nashville thread - what a good time we had on our excursion, and good memories of all the excited weeks of planning and anticipating, the kindness and concern of everyone when I flew off my Segway, most especially ArmyGirl and Margaret, who escorted me on a 50 minute trek to the cab stand at the Gaylord. This political stuff has come up in just the past 4 or 5 days, sparked by a comment on another thread, and as it got increasingly nasty, has managed to drive many of us away. As one of our followers commented, What a Shame.

Licksch's thread is marvelous - she listens to hundreds of suggestions, then whizzes through improvements in no time at all. I get envious about all the gardens on that thread, then remind myself that living within a block or two of symphony hall, the art museum and the historical society is some compensation for no earth for digging. Spencer's thread is awesome; we have assisted in decorating her monumental bedroom, and also the yurts she provided for a construction crew in a mountain wilderness. It too has become a social network, but that "What do I do with this gaudy rococo bed set …" is still ultimately a focus, bed refinished, but chandelier, rug, etc to go, and now another rococo bed in her daughter's bedroom, a whole new decorating challenge.

Checked in here because I have moved from too large office into slightly too small, and am doing a pink theme in my 4' x 3.5' comfy area, a joke initially, but I found so many pretty things at an 89 cents a pound Goodwill outlet that it's become satisfyingly real. Absolute opposite of your office, so spacious and calm, an area conducive of both contemplation and activity.

Fun to "talk"to you … perhaps we can meet sometime? If I ever get my pictures to transfer to your thread, I will send some.
