I am unclear what you mean on option 3 and 4.

Also, I cannot make a recommendation in a vacuum. Can we pleas see the rest of the room? What is your furniture like? Do you have all white trim in the house now?

What a helpful photo! That looks very dramatic and fits the room well. Be sure to notice that the lighting is balanced and the staging is very clean. Not a lot of little stuff.

Decocco, I must admit, I took this straight from the poster's idea book! I do like the clean look and am leaning towards the black for a recommendation.

But, I feel we need more information.

Here are some more photos of the room. It's not huge, and the fireplace is seen right as you walk from the front hallway. We have painting our doors black on the first floor.

For option 3 I was thinking of painting the oak and the wall above white, then leaving just the flat mantle and crown below a darker wood color in keeping with some of the black accents in the room without going all black on the fireplace.

I don't think painting it another color (besides white or black would really work - so scratch #4.

YES! I love that photo, but I guess want to make sure that black doors, black fireplace, doesn't seem too dark.

I see what you mean about the light - not sure what it would take to add sconses...

Is there any way to move the sectional back? The fireplace looks oddly ignored.

If your door are black, I do think it might be too much to add a full fp in black, and I don't see that you need to go to the expense. Painting the fp mantle and legs black and then a stunning piece of art above is all you need.

You have some great photos in your idea book of clean-lined room, but your room has not gotten there yet. Just one example.....all the little things on the fireplace mantle.
