My work here is done......

Stripped, sanded, primed and painted my son's kitchen cabinets. Found an awesome off-cut piece of granite and voila! Early Christmas present for son and daughter in law! He will do backsplash as funds are available. So happy with the results and a perfectly good kitchen did not end up the landfill with so many others.

Bravo Mom! Did you drywall ceiling, too or was it just covered with the hideous light?

Just removed the hideous light:). Had to patch the drywall a bit but not much. They are saving up for stainless appliances too, so that will make a big difference too.

Kudo's to you Lisa! Looks great. The stainless appliances will go great with the gray cabinets;)

Thanks all! I'm very happy with the results and would do it again in a heartbeat. The colour is BM Metroplis, I used the BM Advance paint designed for cabinets and furniture. Nice to work with. Not sure of the make and model of the microwave. Was an inexpensive one from Home Depot that I had in my previous home.

It was a ton of work, but I didn't rush it. Brought the cabinet doors home to my house and did them a bit each day.

Nice job adding hidden hinges and positioning the pulls in a better location.

Looks great. Cabinets with the pulls in the middle have to have been the worst design in the last century.

Wow, you are a great mom. Your son is lucky! I had mixed feelings about painting the oak-looking cabinets in our kitchen, but have gotten inspiration from your pics.

And that's how you transform "honey oak" cabinets and incorporate white appliances! Lovely. Notice how the flooring "cooled off" once the lighting was done and the cabs where painted? In the first photo it looks rather "jaundiced". In the second photo the floor looks "crisper", "whiter/grayer". Nice transformation.

I've heard and read about prepping the doors and then taking them to a body shop for painting. Cost about the same as Earl and the results are beautiful.

A job well done, always have said a gallon of paint can transform a room. And kudos to the young couple that does not need it all now attitude, and are willing to save and work towards their next goal of completion for the newly remodeled kitchen. Set short term goals and work towards them, that is my motto!

Laurel, the walls were painted just not easy to see in the picture. They were a light green and are now BM baby fawn.

Erielakehouse, yes new countertops. We priced a new laminate counter at approximately $500 then would still have to install it. I called a granite guy I've dealt with before and got an off cut piece of gorgeous granite, installed for $1100. Made way more sense to me to spend a bit more. I'm a realtor, and I know that when they go to sell down the road, that inexpensive piece of classic granite will get them far more than $1100 and even the nicest laminate will get them nothing extra
