Nope, and that's in Fairbanks, Alaska. But we heat entirely w wood as long as we're in town so the heater doesn't get much action even in deep cold.

We tried really hard to wait til November to turn on the heat, but had to turn that thermostat over to heat near the end of October...grrrrr...I hope the LP gas does not go up again this year. We do use the fireplace ALOT, but the mornings get pretty nipply.

Our weather varies a great deal this time of year. We have turned on the heater, then back to air conditioning and now the heat is on again. Last night, we used our wood burning fireplace for the first time this season.

Well, we turned on the heat last weekend and ol' Bessie, our 45-year-old boiler, finally gave up the ghost. Leaking, steam everywhere and flames licking out of the boiler. And the ignition and pilot are shot, so it wouldn't stay on. We knew this day was coming, but was hoping we'd get just one more winter out of her. So, this week, just in time for the 30-degree and lower weather we're expecting in the Midwest starting Wednesday, we are having a new boiler installed. In the meantime, it's electric and kerosene heaters for us. My electric bill is going to be a doozy, but at least the gas bill will be down for this month! When you live in a 4, 000 square foot house that was built in 1917, you take the little blessings where you can find them! Hope everyone stays warm this winter!

Here in the southern hemisphere it is just coming into summer - had my first swim on the weekend, beautiful sunny weather and blue skies but the water is still a bit cold. Cleaned out the fireplace six weeks ago and put summer sheets on the beds about 2 weeks ago. The garden is looking its best right now. The sprinklers are go. The dog is sleeping outside again. Bring it on!

North Texas- We finally pulled the A/C out of the windows. Don't have heat, but we do have a woodstove (love that thing), and I have been putting a few logs in before we go to bed, otherwise the house is freezing in the morning. It has been in the 40's at night here. Supposed to turn cold after today! Glad we got a log splitter this fall, because my 18 year old is off to college, and my back is too old to split that much wood!

I've had my fireplace and my furnace on for at least three months now. Northern Alberta gets chilly early!

South Florida for nearly 3 years, and we've never turned our heat on. We had a bonfire one night last week, and we've laid in firewood for a couple more, but I'm hoping we can just continue to muddle through the winters wearing hoodies to bed. :)

@michellehouse12.....hey...sounds like you have steam heat! That is, by far, the best heat you can have. I miss my old place with steam rads. Open the valves & your skin, plants, pets & everything is happy!! No dry air or stuffy heads.

Here in central New Jersey the weather has been fluctuating. Tomorrow is 66 but we are expecting much colder weather on Thursday, near 45 degrees for the high. The main hvac is turned on in the morning an hour before my teenager wakes up, its off the rest of the day until right before he comes home from school. At night I leave it off. When I am home during the day I only stay in one room and use a space heater. We have really high ceilings in our living room. They may look nice but forget about keeping the place warm, always cold. I hate the colder weather, bring back summer and short sleeves !!!!

We live in Colorado and the current temp. is 13 degrees. We are adding a second story and have no heat ducts or furnace to go with it!! So I have 4 space heaters running on 640 sq. ft. main floor to keep warm.

Yes. We had a great fall but now it is -5F (-20C) so the furnace is set to 58F at night and 65F for hours we are awake and home. The wood stove is lovely.

Is anyone using a ground source heat pump ? It's something I'd like to install, once you reach a certain depth the temperature is constant. A friend installed one that takes care of heating, hot water & cooling, cleaver stuff. It was new construction but for an existing home it might be a difficult depending on site conditions.

I have a friend who did that. It was an older home. You need space to run the lines. In Nebraska he ran several hundred feet at a depth of 7 feet. The system cost is over $20k. Not sure if that would include burying the lines. He did his own, has a license and gets discounts. But his first month's bill for his utilities was about $4.oo after the install.

I live in New Brunswick, Canada and the coldest it's been here is probably -10 or -15 with 40-60km an hour winds. I'm still braving it and have yet to turn the heat on, though we live in an apartment on the third floor - heat rises and I try to bundle up as long as I can to save on the electric bill.
I'll most likely turn on the heater come December!

Turned the heat on because it was 40 degrees outside...low 60s inside. Then 24 hours later we needed to turn the AC on because it was 90 degrees outside w/68% dew point!

No, we haven't turned on the heat, today it was 82F (28C) a perfect day for working outside. Think it's going to be a warmer than normal fall but then I'm an optimist.

It's ridiculously warm out in CT but I'm in FL right now and I don't think that will happen for a long long long time.

If heated seats count - I've had my heated mattress pad off and on all summer. (The heat helps my joint pain.)

Amanda, heated car seats count only if your car is your home. Unfortunately this may be true for some.

Turned the heater on, then the A/C the next day, then then the heater again and then the A/C again, such is "winter" in Houston. Like the old joke says, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait a day and it'll change"
