It seems like there is a lot of drive way. I think taking some of it out (most of the right side in the photo) terracing the area to work with the grade and adding steps would help. Something like this might work for you:



Notice the wood fence in the back ground - looks like it could be a courtyard.

Another idea is create a court yard in the empty L part of the of the house. The steps to could lead to a trellis and bordered by "walls" of your choosing - brick, wood fencing, concrete or hedges.
