Help with furniture placement in open livingroom/kitchen

Hi! We have a split/tri level house and I am having a hard time figuring out where to place the furniture on the main floor. We would like to use the room for both eating meals and a place for guests to be able to sit and visit. This is the main entry area and how we get to the backyard and the garage.

I am sorry for the poor picture quality.

Get some blue painter's tape, and tape off designated areas for the living room and dining room. With those areas, tape off where you want various pieces of furniture to go making sure you have enough room to get around without running into furniture. Most of decorating a home comes down to tweaking it once you get the basic stuff in. When it looks right, and you're happy with it, it's done.
